Did you gain weight over holidays?
Unfortunately, I stepped on the scale today. Three pounds. :-(

Certainly, not insurmountable, but I had made quite a bit of progress following my surgery. I will admit I let my exercise routine lapse when I got back from the honeymoon. First it was pneumonia and then Christmas.

Time to get back in the groove.

How did everyone else fare?

1. Sensible diet and exercise over January
should take care of that. Nothing to be alarmed about.

8. Oh I didn't answer your question
A pound or two, but I still wear the same clothes.

I totally stayed away from that massive potluck buffet at the office before Christmas. Yikes. But the New Year's Eve dinner was quite rich.

11. It takes more than a couple pounds
to put you in bigger sizes — unless you are wearing clothes that a probably too tight to begin with.

Unfortunately, I have accumulated wardrobes in two different sizes. I'm in the smaller one now, but I'll still hang onto the larger size just in case.

Just motivated.

Last year was a fat one for me because off a number of health issues. I just feel better sans a few more pounds. I would like to take off 10 by summer.

9. Yes, I'm sure not being able two swallow would help
:-)

You would think your California excursion would have inflicted some damage.

I was still getting dizzy spells until last week. The heavy-duty antibiotics (and being sick) really did a number on me. I was still having to take naps as well. I'm finally feeling 100 percent.

20. Well, I actually started losing weight about 2 months ago
Just cut down on how much I was eating, and by Christmastime, had lost 16 pounds. I had gotten used to eating less, and the fact that there was more food around -- that that Mr. SG was making tons and tons of cookies -- was not tempting to me. So essentially, I just kept doing the same thing I had been doing. My reward was, I could fit into a pair of jeans I had not been able to wear for ever so long! The one thing I do have to do is start exercising again. I admit I did slack off on that!

Probably a few pounds myself. I made a New Year's resolution today: I'm giving up (most) simple carbohydrates...especially pop. I heard you can lose a lot of weight just ditching pop, so I'm giving it up (except calorie-free diet pop).

Added muscle, lost some fat (so the body looks a bit sleeker and smoother) but overall, my weight went up because I did add muscle. Sigh. Makes Doc frown and badger me because my BMI is too high.

22. Your doctor is an idiot if he/she relies on BMI
as a sole indicator of overall health. There are so many other factors to take into consideration.

Many athletes have VERY high BMIs because of muscle mass, but their overall percentage of body fat is quite low. Do you have any other conditions or are borderline, like diabetes, high BP or cholesterol? Are you eating a healthy, balanced diet and getting regular exercise?

It's not strictly a numbers game. It's more about feeling good and maintaining healthy habits.

With my build and body type, I'll never be thin. At my slimmest, I was a size 8, and that was only achieved by hardly eating and exercising like a maniac — hardly a healthy lifestyle.

23. Mostly my numbers are good.
My cholesterol is borderline, but my family history shows borderline cholesterol over several generations, with little heart disease and very long lives (we routinely make it into our 90s and the century mark is about a 50% chance). With that kind of record, borderline cholesterol doesn't worry me (I'm not quite 30, as it happens.)

I exercise quite regularly and eat a healthy diet that is in fact not enough to sustain my weight according to the numbers, but then again I am one of those lovely people who are the answer to an energy crisis - put us on a treadmill, feed us 1000 calories and we'll produce 3000 calories of heat... and still gain weight...

I feel mostly healthy, save for the fact that I have delicate connective tissue, so I injure my joints easily, and have boobs that are too big for my back, and so have upper back pain.... Thin is not what I want... I'd rather be a Tara than a Willow any day.

30. I had problems with my cholesterol
and lowered it more than 100 points by becoming a vegetarian. If that's not for you, add more whole grains and beans to your diet and go for skim or low-fat dairy products. I also take garlic and flaxseed oil. Works for me.

Exercise and small meals throughout the day really can help speed up the metabolism.

40. Vegetarianism is not an option.
So much of the protein requirement comes from soy when vegetarian, and soy for those of us with thyroid disorders or the potential for thyroid disorders is like feeding gluten flour to someone with celiac disease. It's just a good way to make a situation worse.

I limit my soy to soy sauce and the occasional boca burger and tofu a couple times a month. Any more than that and the isoflavinoids start mimicking TSH and it lowers my TSH levels, leaving me tired all the time, achy, cold and just generally miserable.

We do lots of whole grains, beans and non-fat dairy (That's all I buy - why buy crap when the good stuff costs the same?)

Hope you feel better soon.

Any way you can get help with the teeth? You could have a low-level infection in your mouth that is taking its toll on your whole system. I recall reading that you can even get heart damage from gum infections, not that I have a clue what's wrong with you. If that's the case, maybe some antibiotics would help until you could do more?

I have increased my diet 2500 calories since Jan 1. I am sooo stuffed! I have one more large meal to eat, and i don't really wanna!

Maybe i'll just go work out again, and see if i can make room for supper.
