Have any of you earned a Master's that "wasn't worth it?"
Did you complete the two years of additional work, with thesis or project, only to find that you couldn't find a better job thereafter?

Or that it didn't lead to the new career you believed it would lead to?

I'm nearing completion of my Master's and wonder if this will do me any good in finding decent employment in my small city. I'd like to hear your stories.

2. I did that with a doctorate
I wanted to get into analytical work with fish populations. I got out and found out that it's impossible to do, because almost no one does it anymore.

3. Wasn't worth it is a relative thing
I did my MA in english / creative writing, did the thesis and the whole bit, but I did it because I wanted to, not for a job.

I am a software developer, and did that part time while in school, and went back full time afterwards.

The only problem is now they think I can edit all the documentation for them...

All your family wants you to fix their computer
And all your coworkers want you to edit their docs...

5. Yeah, pretty much.
I tell my family my consultant fee and they shut up.

I told my boss he needs to pay me more for the extra work, and he did.

So we are all happy.

:hi:

8. My ex...
...has a Masters in English (Feminist Literary Criticism).

She's never held a job in any field even remotely connected to her education.

As far as I know, she only works part-time now, in a totally unrelated field.
