Job interview in Bloomington IN tomorrow |
|
I'm driving down in the morning for an 11 am interview and lunch. The job's with the University. Then I have an appointment with a realtor to look at some places in the afternoon just to get a sense of what's out there.
I know the interviewer very well (a close acquaintance), this will be my third interview (the first two were done by phone) although with several other people on the team.
Things are serious but I have big-time reservations about living in Indiana if I get a job offer tomorrow (which I think may happen - my acquaintance friend set up the realtor appointment!)
Anyone living in Bloomington that can give me some info? I like living in blue Illinois although I hate the flat landscape. I know southern Indiana is supposed to be very beautiful but if I'm surrounded by ignorance (and no progressives!), I'll go nuts.

1. Relax. Bloomington has quite a concentration of blue.... |
|
It is one of the few areas in the state that is predominantly liberal. (Could be those damn liberal perfessors, or somethin'.):D
And the area is very picturesque. Nice rolling hills, nice fall foliage, and some of the surrounding communities are full of artists and musicians.
Don't let the fear of living in a red state ruin something good.
We aren't all red. Just the stupid ones.

2. Bloomington isn't like the reast of the area. |
|
The University makes it more progressive. The area looks a little nicer than downstate Illinois too. Good luck!

I was hoping someone would know if it was a pretty liberal area in a red state. The woman whose really pushing hard for me to take the job isn't political and it just doesn't seem cool in a job interview to ask about the area's political tides.
I've tried to get a feel for it via online but it's disguised by the rest of Indiana red!

4. One of my good friends moved to Bloomington |

to go to library school a couple of years ago. I've visited her twice now, and Bloomington is a great town. I could definitely live there, and I'm used to blue Western Washington.
