Can you be happy for other people? |
|
Or do you sulk when other people are happy?

1. I love when people are happy. |
|
If I'm not feeling happy, I hope THEIR happy rubs off on me a bit.

If I am in a good space, I can be happy for others. If not, I can be an envious fuck!

3. I can definitely be happy for other people |
|
The downside to that is other people's unhappiness tends to drag me down. :(

9. Sulking when other people are happy is jealousy, |
|
and jealousy is a sin. Or if it's not a sin, it should be.
Wait a minute, it is! Isn't it the same thing as envy? I think it must be.
I'm very tired, in case you can't tell. I think it's time for me to go to bed.

15. or happy cuz their vile |
|
see my post below... am in a pretty foul mood after learning more first hand about a particular shady doctor - who has just got the go ahead - with a bunch of dr investors - to start a private, exclusive hospital - to compete with the local public hospital in a market that is not likely to be able to sustain two such facilities. They are very very happy right now (the shady doc and the investing docs) - but I think they are vile and suck. Sometimes folks are happy cuz they just got a big one over on the public and are giddy as they laugh themselves to the bank.

13. Rather depends on why they are happy... |
|
the doctor who lost his priveledges at the local hospital (for leaving a patient in the OR under anesthesia) - who has enticed other docs into secretly (they are not going public) putting together investment dollars to open a 35 million dollar private hospital in the county... to serve a community of under 100,000 - he and his partners are giddy happy.
I, however, look at how unlikely it is for this community to support two large hospitals, and think about how much damage this is likely to do to our community's health services - and I just can't be happy at their being happy at their coup (getting the backing to go ahead with the project.)
My point is that it is all contextual. Am I a wet blanket who gets grumpy because folks are happy just because? Of course not. But there are something that make people happy - that I just can't rejoice in... and thus can't share their happiness. Heck I am near giddy at the hope that the trial of Ken Lay causes him great distress and results in great discomfort - but back in January of 2001 dude was happier than a soaring kite flying freely over the grand canyon... but the source of that happiness.. just can't get down with it.
Just thought the question was a little too unbounded for a straight "yes, I am happy for others being happy" response - as sometimes why they are happy (ala woohoo I am Karl Rove and I just bamboozled the public in another election) sorta is a condition as to whether or not I would be happy for their happiness.

18. Sorry for the grumpy response... |
|
had a conversation this afternoon with an insider on that hospital project that made me even more angry about it - and worried for the community. Those folks just got the approval for a ground breaking, and a new financing deal from an investment group out of Birmingham, AL. Your OP just made me wryly think to myself... those *ssh*les are pretty dang happy write now - and hence my rant of a response.

For some stupid reason I was born with blotter emotions. The older I get though, the less it affects me. Now when I sad or angry going in, the happiness only lasts till I've been gone about an hour.
