Ok - just painted the kitchen door Venetian Red.
Wanted a splash of color in the kitchen so now I've got it.

What else can I do to change things up a bit? Am having a mid-life decorating crisis and need to add some zing to my domestic life.

Any suggestions?

1. Maybe change the backsplash behind your sink
Some kind of faux finish or some such!

3. I'm thinking of changing my countertops to a granite or granite-like
material. This is what comes of watching the decorating shows too much. I think my husband is going to 'limit' my tv viewing.

2. I painted my room REALLY dark blue
and I love it!!!!

You could paint the cabinet frames to match, and keep the doors of the cabinets/drawers white, or paint them a complimentary color.

I hope you enjoy your red door!!!!

4. I've been giving some thought to painting the cabinets - but it seems
like a rather daunting challenge. I don't want them to come out a mess, so I'm still contemplating it.

Did you paint your entire room dark blue, including the ceiling?

Isn't it fun to do something a bit on the dramatic side?

:silly:

11. Oh do!
I had dark, tired woodgrain cabinets and I painted them an offwhite shade to match the ceilings and walls. Now I have a cheery space rather than a sombre one. It took a long time because I had some serious prep work to do and I changed the hardware, but it was worth it.

12. That's my thoughts as well. Was thinking of kind of an oyster white
color and new hardware. Sure beats remodeling. But the thought of the work it's going to take stops me in my tracks.

6. Add at least 2 more touches of the red
Not large areas! Once you use a color more than twice, it becomes a part of the room rather than a solo accent.

Also, look for a few things to put into the room that are a bright green like jade, kelly,
anything that isn't too yellow green....curtains, glass, ceramic.

Or you could take the advice of painting the edges of cabinets - with 1 stripe each of red (wider) and green (narrow!)

THAT'll zing the room up!

7. Canisters (if you use them), dish towels, pot holders, a rug,
etc., all in venetian red (or red as a prevalent color) will pull it together.
I'm with you on needing to update and refresh my kitchen, but messing with the counters and cabinets is daunting. And I'm not hardly a DIY person, especially with more involved jobs.

8. The Chinese believe it's good luck to have the FRONT door red.
The front door is where the "chi" (universal life energy) comes in, and red is considered to be a good luck color.

My feng shui tip for the day...

9. Paint your cabinets and change the hardware
It's quickish, not too hard, and pretty inexpensive. And, it makes a world of difference! IKEA has some cool cheap hardware (if you live by one).

10. I think red in the kitchen is wonderful!
It's such a passionate color that I think works well in kitchens. In addition to our red walls we have red accent pieces such as the teapot, the towels, the hotspots. I kinda wish our white Kitchenaid would quit so we could buy a new one in red. Our cabinets are white, though, to add balance.

A note on painting red - how many coats did it take for the one door? Our walls took 7 coats of red! Be prepared for at least 5. It's quite a commitment.

Good luck! Sounds fun! Now if only I could get my husband to work on the bathroom...
