Need a travel suggestion for singles
For a friend. Recently divorced, about 45 and has a high-pressure job. She wants a "total relaxation" week that's reasonably affordable (Canyon Ranch would be nice, but not affordable). Somewhere warm, without a lot of pressure to tour or sightsee. She's not sure she'd fit the "swinging singles" places, but she doesn't want to spend the whole 4-7 days without talking to other folks of (both sexes) either. She's smart, hetero, African-American, from the midwest, likes to read, Progressive, fun and funny but not "wild", moderate drinker, never traveled alone before. Meeting men would be nice, but de-pressurizing is much more important (not necessarily looking to "Get Her Groove Back" if you get my drift...)

I suggested a place in Mexico I know of with tents right on the beach, convivial people, but no electricity (except in the central facilities). The "no electricity" and "tent" thing didn't thrill her - as she said, she's looking for something a bit more civilized (I was thinking about the culture being friendly to both couples and singles, but evidently, she's very demanding - she wants somewhere with electricity - jeez!!!! ) Also, she doesn't scuba dive, so that eliminated one of my all-time favorite singles getaways at a dive compound in the Bahamas (don't like Bahamas but LOVED this divers-only place!) My dude-ranch suggestion didn't go over either -- she's not looking for a whole lot of structured activity.

Anyway, where's an adult single woman to go?

12. Kailuum II in Play del Carmen in the Yucatan
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 01:22 PM by Patiod
here are some reviews from Trip Advisor (one of my favorite websites). A bunch of my friends went (individually) over the years, and they all enjoyed it. Very inexpensive, VERY casual.

2. HEY!!!
You should come to the Drinking Liberally night in Philadelphia. I went last night and it's at Tangiers on 18 & Lombard. They had a really great turnout!

8. We can walk over from Tangiers
I should bring my girlfriend - might be a good way to meet some new men, and you'd know from the get-go that at least their POLITICS is reasonable, if nothing else!

Was watching Penn State stumble around the Orange Bowl last night.....

5. There are eight million all-inclusive resorts out there ....
We went to one on our honeymoon in Playa Del Carmen in the Yucatan, they are also all over the Caribbean, particularly Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. One can be as lazy as possible or as active as one wants to be.

They often offer the best bang for the buck, with packages with airlines.

Another option would be cruises, which are like a resort that moves.

6. Hedonism anywhere
Although the name is true to its course...if you're not looking to hook up with someone this might not be your place...

10. Well, she's very involved with her church
which is liberal, for a church, but I'm thinking hedonism isn't right, at least for this year! As I said, she's definitely not ready to Get Her Groove Back quite yet..

13. I had been thinking about Tucson
Spent some time there alone during a few of the Gem Shows - very pleasant. But I travel alone for work a lot, and she doesn't --- so something with some organized social events but not too many (I know this is picky). The Mexico thing would be perfect if it weren't for the electricity and bugs.

I'll pass along the La Paloma suggestion...
