??? Best home delivery/subscription DVD service ??? |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 03:46 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Son gave me a DVD recorder for Christmas...said, "Gettin' you into the 21st Century, Mom!" Ha ha... Anyway, am thrilled to have the player since I'm reluctant to spend money on new electronics.
Was thinking of subcribing to Netflix.
Any others that I should consider?

2. You have a choice of Netflix, Blockbuster or WalMart. |
|
I have had Netflix for over a year and I love it.

they are business partners, but it isn't a matter of ownership (as far as I know, anyway). Netflix took over Wal-Mart's online rental business/customer base, and in return has promoted WalMart's online movie sales division. But walmart didn't buy them out, to the best of my knowledge. :)

29. I haven't even seen any Walmart ads on Netflix lately. |
|
And the DVD sales they push are all Netflix branded.

don't give your money to Blockbuster. Besides being a crappy company, their service is inferior to Netflix (in my experience anyway). I took a free trial subscription with them awhile ago in order to get free spyware software from an online vendor doing a tie-in with them and their DVDs took four to five days to get to my house whereas netflix almost always gets me my replacements within 1-2 days of receiving my returns.

Loved it. Never had trouble with delivery times, but discontinued the service about a year ago.
Be aware that more and more DVD's are encrypted and cannot be copied. Not that I've tried it mind you. Didn't know if you were using your new recorder as a viewer or were planning to record too.

WalMart is O-U-T! Never use them or go there...It's a political thing for me.
Sounds like Netflix is the way to go. Since I live in a rural CA town, getting DVDs by mail will be great! Have so many movies to catch up on!!
Thanks! :hi:

we've got a GREAT one where I live now, but where I lived until recently (a 100k college town) didn't have any independent rental outlets. The last best one closed about four years ago (and that was a sad freaking day, let me tell you )

|
Cheap and easy.
If you get videos or videogames - Blockbuster or Hollywood Video offer competive deals. But you have to go there and they have due dates.
Personally, I like choosing what I want on line and finding it my mailbox. And being able to keep it as long as I want.
So I say Netflix.
Khash.

13. I would just like to add that I give thumbs up to Netflix. |
|
My DVD player went out because of an electrical power surge in September. There was a Netflix DVD in the drive and I could not get it opened. My son, who I rarely see, was here at Xmas and took the DVD player apart, fixed it and retrieved the DVD. I finally sent it back to Netflix last week, two months later. You can keep their DVDs forever and not be charged any late fee.

30. Netflix is GREAT. Now, let me ask you about your DVD recorder. |
|
What brand is it? Can you actually copy DVDs on it? That's what I need. Please let me know what brand and model number you have, and if you like it.
Go with the 3 DVDs at a time Netflix account. It's only 18 dollars a month, and very worth it. The turn-around time is much quicker than with Blockbuster (in my case, anyway). I can put movies in the mail to return them on a Tuesday, and by Thursday I receive my next three movies.
I tried Blockbuster for one month, but the turn-around time was twice as long, and the selection was not nearly as great as Netflix.
