The Machinist
Anyone else see this film?

I thought it was worth seeing for the performance of Christian (insane) Bale alone, not to mention the wonderful retro-noir feel of the movie, but others have sited the ending as unsatisfactory and therefore the entire film a waste of time.

Thoughts and opinions anyone? :)

6. Essentially, it's about a man who has not slept in a year,
wasting away to a virtual skeleton (Bale lost 63 pounds for the role). The whole film has a great Hitchcock feel to it- we perceive the world through the main character's sleep-deprived and increasingly paranoid eyes till the Third Act; when we find out what's really going on and why he hasn't been able to sleep in a year.

It's worth renting, just don't watch the "making of" documentary until after you've watched the movie.

"The Machinist" looks very much like something Hitchcock would have directed. The look, the retro-noir feel...even the musical score.

And Christian Bale is excellent in it.

4. Bale was just creepy in that film
It was weird, but good.

I don't particularly care to see it again, though. Once was enough

9. Yes he was, wasn't he?
I never thought I'd see a Chritian Bale movie where I would be thinking, "Please don't take your shirt off!"

11. Really good film
Check out Brad Anderson's previous film "Session 9" - easily one of the best horror films in years.

12. Just rented it 2 nights ago.
It was very tense and very sad.

I thought the ending made the film. And I did not predict it.

I did predict the fight club aspect...that was clear, and I don't think meant to be a surprise, but I thought the waitress was in the fridge and the hooker would be in the carpet. I thought it was a much deeper film making the choice that it did.

13. Love that film...
Really great, creepy atmosphere, great performances and some really nice cinematography. Exactly what I look for in a film.
