OMFG I just was at a homicide scene
I woke up and heard screaming from across the street. I heard a woman scream OMG HE'S NOT BREATHING! I'm CPR trained so I went outside and got there before the cops. Her fiance had been cut up and half his face was gone. And her son had witnessed the murder. OMFG OMFG.

5. Hey, WHD...
What a terrible thing to see. I'm a first responder, so I see some gore occasionally. It leaves a mark on you, that's for sure. When you are a part of something as traumatic as what you just witnessed, you probably need to have a good friend to whom you can kind of unload. Don't keep it all bottled up inside you, or it can hurt you.

7. all you can do
is what's physically possible...thank goodness for first responders and all EMT...my mom was a nurse in los angeles when i was growing up, she worked urgent care in inglewood...my god...i could never do that...i would just break down in tears the first time i saw an injured child...a dead man i could handle...but injured (or dead kids) would just make me freeze in panic...it takes a special person to respond when the chips are down...kudos to you for doing what you could in a bad situation...

12. I was actually able to catch a little sleep
this morning. I had a tooth extracted yesterday and am on Vicodin, which is probably why I was sleeping lightly enough to wake up in the first place. I didn't tell my daughter (16) before she left for school, but when I looked outside, the cops and crime scene tape are still there.

shit together and worked on calming down the girl and her son. They told me homicide will want a statement from me and I will certainly ask that question when they call.

9. I am so sorry WHD
I was once at the scene when cops pulled body parts out of a dumpster. And that will always stay with me. So I know wat you mean....

But you are very admirable for going over there, alone, to try to help someone. Sure, there are people who do terrible things like you describe. But there are also people like you who try to help people.

But, yeah, OMFG is a good response to what you saw. And the poor son who witnessed it all!

Khash.

14. I'm doing better now. I was able to sleep a little, which is good
because I had a tooth extracted yesterday. I didn't tell my daughter (16) about it before she left for school, but when I got up I see the cops and crime scene tape are still there, so she knows something happened, just not about my involvement. That's probably for the best until I can talk to her about it this evening.

Whatever I'm going through is nothing compared to that poor little boy.

23. OMFG!!! I'm so sorry!!! What a horrible thing for you to have faced!!!
I was certified in CPR for many years, as well, but that's not kind of the thing that you are trained for or even imagine. I'm so sorry, my friend. I don't even know what else to say except to suggest counseling, and for the poor son, as well. I'd sure need something, after seeing such a thing. Please take good care of yourself and let us know how you're doing.;(

29. I thought of that when I read your post, that I was so glad that DU was
there for you. It's such a remarkable resource and also a great source of support. I hope that the vicoden helps, but I'd prefer valium! And I'm smoking too, smoke more when I'm stressed, so I sure understand. I just hope that you can take it easy for the next few days. And I would consider seeing someone. This is a trauma that'll be with you for a long time, so you need to do what you can to take care of yourself. And I am so sorry. This is not something you ever expected when you took CPR.;(

since I lost yesterday to the tooth thing, I have to get at least a little work done. But I will go easy on myself.

And it's great if you can get some work done and take your mind off this, but I'm glad that you're going easy on yourself. And not just today, since this is something that won't be forgotten by tomorrow, or anytime soon. Yikes! I am still so sorry. Just take care of yourself and let us know how you are.

32. Please take care of yourself,
you may still be in a state of shock and not realize it. I'd be careful about taking Xanax with pain meds.

It might help to see someone who can at least tell you what to expect. Several months ago, my 6 yr old granddaughter found a suicide victim on her Dad's property. My daughter took her to a counselor within a few days and was told exactly what to expect and how we could help her deal with it. It also affected my former SIL..a former VFM, EMT and now a LEO. Luckily my daughter talked him into going with them and it helped him too.

It's something you don't expect to happen on your property or in your case so close to your home.

33. I'm not taking the xanax until I don't need the vicodin for the tooth
pain, and am able to eat something substantial. I have to work my part time job this afternoon, but I called my coworker and told her I'd be in late so I can talk to my daughter when she gets home from school.

I'm aware I'm still shell shocked and will find someone to talk to.

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=local&id=3783802

Altercation between roommates end in fatal stabbing

It happened on Country Place near Fern. According to investigators, the men were fighting while one was in the process of moving out. That's when the suspect pulled out a knife, and fatally stabbed the victim.

Police say they know who they are looking for and expect to release the suspect's name.

If you do have any repercussions following this & can't think of anyone to call or be with, go to the fire or police department. Those folks have seen this stuff too & they can help you through the worst of it. (Speaking from experience here)

I'm really doing okay. I spent the weekend with some of my favorite local Democrats. My tooth is feeling better. I had an excellent job interview today. That whole night has been pushed to the back of my mind. It's still there, but I feel very detached from it.

Thanks for thinking of me. Lyn
