The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Thu 1/5/06)
Raw With Love

little dark girl with
kind eyes
when it comes time to
use the knife
I won't flinch and
I won't blame
you,
as I drive along the shore alone
as the palms wave,
the ugly heavy palms,
as the living does not arrive
as the dead do not leave,
I won't blame you,
instead
I will remember the kisses
our lips raw with love
and how you gave me
everything you had
and how I
offered you what was left of
me,
and I will remember your small room
the feel of you
the light in the window
your records
your books
our morning coffee
our noons our nights
our bodies spilled together
sleeping
the tiny flowing currents
immediate and forever
your leg my leg
your arm my arm
your smile and the warmth
of you
who made me laugh
again.
little dark girl with kind eyes
you have no
knife. the knife is
mine and I won't use it
yet.

Charles Bukowski

After the day I had yesterday, it had to be Bukowski today...

12. There's a really great book that may be of some assistance with that
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0812929985/104-8300005-8519945?v=glance&n=283155

Written by a nueropsychiatrist who has actually done spect scans on the brain to document what section of the brain is under/overactive in certain times...it addesses brain patterns that get messed up due to anything from injuries to alcohol and drug use (even in the remote past) that stay messed up unless retrained...it addresses panic attacks

16. Hope it helps
best wishes to you..although our situations are nowhere near the same, I know what it's like to have someone near who claimed to have loved you and then instantly became so deliberately cruel that you just can't cope. It happened in the past to me.

3. Ah, Bukowski.
Here's my favourite Bukowski poem:

Everything

The dead do not need
aspirin or
sorrow,
I suppose.

but they might need
rain.
not shoes
but a place to
walk.

not cigarettes,
they tell us,
but a place to
burn.

or we're told:
space and a place to
fly
might be the
same.

the dead don't need
me.

nor do the
living.

but the dead might need
each
other.

in fact, the dead might need
everything we
need

and
we need so much
if we only knew
what it
was.

it is
probably
everything

and we will all
probably die
trying to get
it

or die

because we
don't get
it.

I hope
you will understand
when I am dead

I got
as much
as
possible.

9. Oh yikes RL!
You must have had a bad day yesterday, and no offense, but this poem is depressing!

Sending you my angel, hopefully she'll be able to lend you a hand.

17. My dear RetroLounge......
This is so beautiful......I don't see it as depressing, though....

I see the profession of a profound and true love....

But perhaps I see the uplifted side of it, because I am happy today......

My love warms me, and so that spills over into whatever I see or read!

Which includes your beautiful poem today....thank you

20. question:
Is this about suicide? or the end of a relationship? Or is it a relationship that he knows will end, but not yet?

This is where poetry confuses me. (sorry to be so dense)

21. Not sure, coulod be all of the above.
With Bukowski, the knife my even be literal.

My guess is that the relationship had not yet ended, but he knows one day it will and the knife (words can slice) that ends it will be his.
