So, instead of vanity plates, I'm considering "specialty" plates.
Half the registration fee goes to various charities, such as the Mass. Environmental trust for these:

or the Mass. Animal Coalition (which helps pay for spaying and neutering animals, etc.):

I'm thinking of getting the animal coalition ones.

9. I think it's perfectly masculine to love animals
After all St. Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of animals, right?

10. True enough .
I'm going to go the RMV at lunch and get them. The Lowell branch shouldn't be crowded at all.

7. I like the 'Animal Friendly' ones - here's the Texas version.

By the way - I was amazed at the sheer number of specialty plates available in Texas --> http://www.dot.state.tx.us/vtr/spplates/allplates.htm :wow:

Is it the same in Massachusetts?

8. Nowhere near as many . . .
For passenger car use, these are them: http://www.mass.gov/rmv/express/plates.htm

Then there are a few varieties for commercial, government, taxi/livery, etc.

18. Ok, get THIS:
There is a Texas "Fight Terrorism" License Plate.

The extra $20 for the plate goes to THE STATE HIGHWAY FUND.

:wtf:

I've never seen this plate on an actual car. I think I might just doubt their sanity. The STATE HIGHWAY FUND?!!!

11. I was thinking of getting the same ones
How much do they cost above the regular plates and do you know how much of that goes to the organization?

12. I just picked them up a few minutes ago.

It cost me $40 to get them. My registration was already paid up, so they just rolled that over onto the new plates.

The cost is $81 every 2 years. I think it's $41 for regular plates. My understanding is that the entire $40 over the regular fees goes to charities . . . http://www.massanimalcoalition.org/License%20Plate%20Info.html

15. When you go to the registry, they'll have you take your old plates in
with you. So don't go inside first, otherwise they won't give you a number and you'll have to go back outside, get your plates, then get back in line to get a number . . .

I speak from experience :P

I just saw these for the first time yesterday (was at the registry picking up some forms) so I'm appreciative of your information.
