Howard Stern's daughter bows out of Nude Off-Off Broadway show
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 03:15 PM by LynneSin
So if someone's 22 year old daughter wants to come on the Howard Stern show and get naked, then Stern is fine with that. But if Stern's 22 year old daughter wants to do an off-off-Broadway show where she strips down naked then that's a big "NO-NO"

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/380201p-322854c.html

The writer-director of "Kabbalah," an Off-Off-Broadway religious satire in which cast members strip naked, yesterday blasted female lead Emily Stern as a "Jewish-American princess" for abruptly quitting the show, and called her famous father, Sirius Satellite Radio jock Howard Stern, "a psycho."

Israeli-born stage maven Tuvia Tenenbom, who runs the Jewish Theater of New York, told me he canceled the run when the 22-year-old actress - who played Madonna in the show - bowed out after six weeks at the Triad Theater on W. 73rd St. because a couple of Howard Stern fan sites exposed her celebrity parentage.

"After I cast her in late September, her father called her in for a meeting," Tenebom recounted. "She came back very shaken. She said, 'My father basically told me that if I take the role , that his enemies would buy blocks of tickets, throw garbage at my vagina, take nude pictures of me and put them all over the Internet.'

1. Consider your source
Lloyd Grove is not exactly a respected source of news, so I would take everything in the article with a grain of salt. He and Howard stern had a physical altercation some years back and have been attacking each other via their respective media outlets ever since. This is only the latest in a long line of barbs traded.

That said, I for one don't see anything wrong with Stern's embracing adult entertainers and counseling his daughter on the dangers of performing nude in New York where his enemies would likely attack her performance, more than likely in the physical manner he suggested. His daughter took this role with the understanding that her father's name would not be released in any way with the show. Once it was, the fear that she would be attacked int eh manner her father warned her became a very real fear. I certainly understand her decision. If there is some measure of damages to the theater due to her decision, they may have a valid claim against her for money damages. I believe these costs are a small trade for her protection. Her father will probably assist her with these costs since he is the source of the hatred, not her.

2. I am 100% behind Howard Stern on this
The women that get naked on his ridiculous shows CHOOSE to do it. No one forces them. I assume that they've all considered all the numerous risks to their careers/lives and despite all those risks, they've chosen to humiliate themselves anyway. Howard Stern, to his credit, has given his daughter the same advice ANY celebrity would/should give his child--the same advice I'd give my OWN child, were I in his shoes. Amazingly, his daughter decided to take his advice. Howard should be congratulated as a decent dad just for that.

I'm sorry, LynneSin, but I just don't see what the controversy is.

4. I agree with you Frank
Stern's daughter did not ask to be Stern's daughter...wheras his guests do this by choice.

Now if it were Howard who declined to go nude that would be another thing...

12. What a laugh. She didn't ask to be his daughter, but
imagine they sure as hell asked her whether she agrees to be naked on a stage before the show, don't you think?

7. Well, excuse me. No one forces them to do it?
Looks like nobody forced Howard's daughter, she decided to do it all on her very lonesome. It's Mr. Stern who forced her not to do it, if the article is to be believed. He is a hypocritical asshole.

10. But the thing is his daughter choose to do this part in the play
which she probably knew ahead of time would require nudity.

She's not 14 years old. She's 22 and has every right to show skin if she wants to

BTW, I've always been a Stern fan but just seeing both irony & hypocricy there!

5. I don't blame him.
Because that's exactly what would happen.

6. He actually makes a valid point
It's not the nudity, it's the possible harrassment from his enemies (and I would guess some of his fans) that could be a problem. Like any father, he doesn't want his kid to get hurt.

11. And other women that undress on his show
don't have fathers or mothers that don't want their kids to get hurt?

14. they don't have parents who attract nutty fans or nutty enemies
The argument isn't about a woman performing nude art, it's about the unwanted attention that an infamous father could bring to this particular woman.

13. I think he told her exactly what he thought would happen.
It's not like he'd initiate it, he told her what would happen, and she chose to take his advice. She could just as easily have said, "screw it" and done the play anyway.
