Got a Mexican carpenter rebuilding our Ivan destroyed screened porch. Yeah, 15 months after the event, we FINALLY got a contractor. You would not believe the waiting lists/times down here on the gulf coast.
Anyway...Phil and I have struck up a friendship. His given name was Felipe, but he legally changed it to "Phillip" when he "immigrated" to California several years ago. "Hey, man...nobody could pronounce "Fay-lee-pay. So I changed it. I'm American now." Heck, I can. And so I call him Felipe. He kind of likes it, I think.
Yesterday he said "Rosa's making tamales tonight. I bring you some tomorrow." Today he delivered. I can't wait.
Rosa is the nanny next door and sometimes brings the two little girls over for a visit. Miz t. and I are kind of grandparents-in-residence. She's from deep in rural Mexico, and a three time loser. Got caught in illegal border crossings. We're helping Felipe to try and get her a green card. The Rest of the Menu: Refritos and 3 cheese risotto to go with. Nice mixing of ethnic cuisines. Maybe a Dos Equis to wash it down? Bon Appetit. :-)

1. Oh, how I love tamales. |
|
I'm envious. Of course I could go buy a dozen, but it's not the same (although tasty still).

I wonder if I can "suggest" that one of my coworkers make some soon. Her's are excellent-she uses her grandmother's recipe.

Former alcoholic, homeless. Lived in his car for a year. "Man, I seen the bottom. I been there. No where but up for me from now on."
He's running three or four businesses now. Hardest working guy I've ever known.
