She deserves it. She works harder than anyone I have ever known (80 hour weeks are not uncommon). She has been to Mexico, Poland, and India since Thanksgiving. She is going to Russia in a couple of weeks, then back to India. Nothing relaxes her like playing the piano. She will play while I cook (on those few nights a month that she is in town).

2. The Whinoes
Ironically, my adviser in this endeavor (buying Dr. D's piano) is a great jazz pianist for whom I played string bass in a jazz trio in the 60's. We were known as The Whinoes and/or The LSO (London, Symphony, Orchestra .. Larry London, Sid Symphony, and Oliver Orchestra). Our Whino ditty was thus:

We are The Whinoes,
The Whinoes are we.
We never accept re-spon-si-bil-ity.
We have a band,
It's the best in the land!
We think that you'll agree!

We also played in a 17-piece swing band called the Auburn Knights. The Auburn Knights celebrated their 75th anniversary at the annual reunion in Auburn, Alabama last year (2005).

4. Actually, I owed it to her from her 50th b-day in 2000.
But we knew we were adios-ing Texas, so I put it off until this year. Dr. D is extremely happy with her new toy. She saw it at the dealer's showroom on 12/23. The dealer is a good friend of my old jazz pianist buddy. He helped secure a fantastic deal on this new Yamaha piano. I will have to insure it for over twice what I paid for it.
