Hurricana Katrina blamed on death of Barry Cowsill
Good thing the "official death toll" was closed out months ago.

=====

Barry Cowsill, a member of the popular 1960s singing family The Cowsills, ("The Rain, The park and Other Things) was found dead on a wharf nearly four months after he disappeared when Hurricane Katrina flooded the city. He was 51.

Cowsill's body, recovered Dec. 28 from the Chartres Street Wharf, was identified with dental records Tuesday, said Dr. Louis Cataldie, head of the state hurricane morgue in Carville.

The coroner had not determined the cause of death but believed it was related to the devastating storm, which struck the city Aug. 29.

Cowsill, who lived on and off in New Orleans, had not been heard from since he left phone messages for his sister Sept. 1, his family's Web site said.

Barry Steven Cowsill
September 14, 1954 - 2005

8. They come back every few years for Taste of Rhode Island.
They sang the anthem at a Red Sox pennant game not long ago.

Most everybody is still making music. Susan's solo career is the most prominent at the moment: www.susancowsill.com
Bob plays regularly in LA with a lot of other talented musicians. John plays with the touring Beach Boys band. Paul has appeared often with the others and is ranching in the Pacific Northwest.

The whole family got together a couple of years ago to do a benefit for the oldest brother Bill, a musician in Alberta who ran into some health problems. I couldn't go, but I heard it was a great show.

In conjunction with the Billy Cowsill benefit concert, a producer in LA got together with Bob, Paul, and presumedly the Museum of Television to compile a terrific DVD of most of their television appearance from the family's active career, along with a commentary CD with Bob and Paul. You can probably still get a copy by donating to the Billy fund at http://www.cowsill.com . Highly recommended. The performance with Johnny Cash is worth the price of admission.

11. I was also a huge fan. Still am.
Couldn't get my cranky Dad to drive me the 60 miles to Richmond, VA to see them when we lived in DC when I was 8. But I'd play their records loud enough when I could.

I'm serious, you need to donate to the Billy fund at cowsill.com to get that DVD. If you were a fan in 1966, you'd adore the DVD retrospective of their TV appearances.

16. She might do it. The family has been living with this since Katrina.
Regardless, she'll probably be touring nationally very soon, so you'll get to see her when she comes through.

pollstar.com usually has current listings for her, as does her website.

20. That was my old neighborhood bar!
although I tended to go there to suck down a pint or six (they even had Anchor Steam when it was nearly impossible to find outside SF), and the Maple Leaf a couple of blocks down for music, seeing as how I had a thing for the drummer in the all-female blues band that would play down there sometimes...

Good to see the Station (and the Maple Leaf, which even defied the former curfew!) up 'n' running. I sure hope Susan is, too. :(

Oh yes, Happy Twelfth Night, y'all! :bounce:

15. The Cowsills were the first "band" I ever saw
at the New York State Fair, years and years and years ago.

My condolences to his family and friends ( Swamp Rat played with him, I've heard.)

So much talent sacrificed for greed.....
