I remember 18....Could be 20 if you count the fact that there still were Packards and Studebakers on the road when I was born, even though they were no longer manufactured.

13. I got 16 and was born in 1959
But the wringer washer had been retired to the basement and was no longer in use when I came along.

We still had a party line on the farm well into the seventies.

I remember when we'd get mimeographed handouts in class, most of the kids would inhale deeply. It was kinda nice to begin a quiz with a little buzz on.

Telephone numbers with a word prefix: The following jingle is burned into my brain: "When you need coal or oil, call Boyle. Fairfax-8 1521."

Candy cigarettes? Yep. They even had a red tip to represent the burning end.

Dang. Now I got a craving for some Blackjack gum.

91. Oh, I didn't know you were from England.
I remember they were still doing it when I was a very young child. We had a neighbor boy who insisted on bringing up the milk for my mother. WE lived in a second floor apartment. Half the time he would break a few bottles. I wish we still had the kind of milk I remember being delivered when I was a kid.

We never had a Party Line--but I surely heard the stories.

I've also used an outhouse. And I remember the anti-mosquito trucks spewing DDT as they came down our road. (Which was paved with oyster shells before the county added blacktop.) And I remember radio shows before we moved to Texas--Inner Sanctum (creepy) & The Lone Ranger (on TV, I thought he looked too clean to be a cowboy; I'd seen some real ones in South Dakota).

I am 47. I personally remember 18 of them. The only ones I don't remember are blackjack gum, Buth wax, Packards, Studebakers and seeing newsreels before a movie.

My parents always got tons of green stamps. They would give them out everywhere! I remember you wouuld paste them to this book and then depending on how many you had you could get things like blankets, lamps and a bunch of other things. I had PF flyers and loved them! I remember the metal ice cube trays and how if you weren't careful your hand would get stuck to the tray. You would have to go turn the faucet on to get it unstuck!

73. Butch wax! I used Butch Wax! With Clamdiggers!
Mom insisted on a crew cut for me and my brother. We looked great with that pasted front of our hair and our clamdiggers in 1962. Got them all, except I can't say I saw wash tubs with wringers. No problemo with the others!

75. Better not wear a loose top with a Wash Tub Wringer...my mom
almost got caught in one...she later said..."christ I thought it was going to eat my tit"...hahahaha...and they crushed buttons on shirts....which is why women would always keep tubs of leftover buttons...cuz those bastard wringers would screw em up...

78. candy cigarettes...the best were the gum cigarettes...they would "smoke"
because of the sugar coating around the gum...if you blew on them while they were in the paper wrappers a sugary smoke would appear....

80. Wow,never had them!
Sounds cool. I had the chalky ones with the red tip-- in fact, I saw them a couple weeks ago in an old-fashioned ice cream parlor-- couldn't believe they were still making them. The chocolate ones were the best, though.

only because of the cool effect...hahahaha

meanwhile I have been a lifelong asthmatic and I do not smoke real cigarettes....but the candy ones..boy they could be so cool when playing as a kid....hahahaha

85. Yes, I have a picture of me at 10
posing, trying to look sultry with an unlit cigarette in my hand and my grandmother's hat on.

We grew up with so many images of how cool and debonair you look with a smoke.

in a power takeoff. Lost an uncle that way (common farm accident in the old days).

83. No fair!
There should be more categories-- we baby-boomers aren't the oldest generation on the planet-- yet!

There should be items there from the World War II/ Depression generation-- now, THAT'S older than dirt (sorry,Mom!)

Disclosure-- I scored 20 and probably would be 100% if I knew what butch wax, cork popguns and Studebakers were-- I'm sure I was around when they were.

As for the newsreels, when did they stop showing them? I think of them as coming from an era before I was born, but that's probably false.

Anyone remember the Henry J.? (Hint for you kiddies, you could drive it.)
How about Captain Video?
Car hops?
How many here ever got to make out in the back seat of a Fairlane with your steady at a drive-in double feature?
Mr. Machine?
Erector Set?

Damn, seems like yesterday.
:wow:

97. dirt
KNOW of them all, but don't actually REMEMBER blackjack, newsreels, butchwax, word-prefix phone number(husband remembers), Howdy Doody (except as re-run/nostalgia), Packards/Studebakers(as antiques)

When I was around 16 and driving my Grandfather around he made a memorable comment upon hearing what I was listening to on the radio (rock n roll) "Why, that sounds like an old washerwoman with her titty caught in the wringer!"

You can buy them new still, in Mexico. Saves a lot of water.

99. Do you remember clove gum?
Came in a red wrapper. Our candy store also used to sell factory second pink rubber balls, not sponge balls, for a quarter. They were the greatest. We had many happy hours of fun playing stoop ball and wall ball.

100. Dirt thinks I'm old
Got them all except the cork popgun. However, I'm from Michigan. We didn't need no stinkin' popguns; we used the real thing.

By the way, you can still get Blackjack chewing gum from the Vermont Country Store.
