7. I keep
trying to put my foot down. I rationalize, try to see their point of view .. but it JUST is not realistic for me to do what they want to do, it's almost impossible. THEY know it, but they just have to dig away.

8. I know that feeling.
But, if it continues, you have to wonder if they aren't just using you because you're willing to see the good side of people.

3. Because you are a thoughtful person
who takes other people's feelings into account. There is a fine line however.

4. I do that too.
I think it's because I take other people's feelings into consideration even before my own. I don't think that's necessarily a good thing all the time.

What's that smiley doing in the bathtub?

6. travel is good for you
broadens your outlook, makes ya more cosmopolitan, if not actually edjumacated.
But like most trips, after a couple hours, you start wanting it to be over. "Are we there yet?"

9. funny you should say travel
this 'guilt trip' involves driving 4.5 hours ONE way to an event that will last only 2 hours then driving the 4.5 hrs back, i just CANNOT do it. And I feel bad about it, but ... ah well.

10. No guilt trip involved
If you can't do it tell 'em so. If they don't understand, I say f*** 'em. Be true to yourself, you've earned it. Just MHO:hi:

12. I've been there many times.
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 12:43 AM by bushwentawol
I still struggle with it. Some people seem to love to manipulate a sensitive caring person. A number of bosses I've had never had a clue about how to manage. But they could manipulate by guilt everyday.

17. because our culture has been perverted by the guilt-based
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 11:52 AM by leftofthedial
religious doctrines of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic flavor of superstition

so guilt has become a foundational characteristic of all our personalities

it's a culturally inflicted mental defect

so, no woriies! go shopping and you'll feel better.

18. Git nasty like me
It's not entirely effective, but it helps a bit. It also helps that I'm your classic happy-go-lucky youngest-child type.

19. I'm the oldest
had to "set an example" all the time, maybe that's part of it. food for thought anyway.

I didn't do what they wanted me to do. I feel a little bit bad about it, but they have to understand it was a choice I had to make.

thanks.

20. As long as it doesn't involve
hurting others, your choices are fine. I've always done what I wanted to do, and not done what I didn't want to do, and it drove everyone crazy--especially my male relatives. They just need to get over it.
