What a prick!
I was on my way home, and on my way from the subway station, I picked up a little something from Starbucks. I admit, I love their Chai Tea Lattes, and I am a regular, but I don't mind spending the money because it is "blue" and they have wonderful health care benefits for their employees.

I was in the elevator to my apartment, and some asshole thought that it would be nice to lecture me on how many calories are in their beverages and how Starbucks is evil. The calorie thing is irrelivent for me as well. I am actually underweight and could stand to gain. I can eat anything and lose weight. But the whole point of this asshole giving me a lecture about me getting a fucking Venti Chai was beyond anything. I said to him "Wow, you are really fighting the important battles" rolled my eyes, and got off the elevator.

...but I don't want to spend the weekend in lockup:P.

I don't think he was calling me fat, because I am tiny. My mom saw me over the holidays and she now calls me daily to see if I am eating...I am, mom! I can put away quite a bit if I want to, and I wish I could bottle this metabolism and sell it and become a billionaire.

The guy was just being an asshole. Probably one of those coffee elitists who only drinks coffee beans consumed and shit out by endangered monkeys. Hell, I don't like the taste of coffee...just tea, and I don't like alot of things...but you will never see me go up to a complete stranger and bitch and whine about their choices in a crowded elevator.

3. Not that it's any of his business, but one question:
Why would anyone call Starbucks evil? Walmart and evil go together, but Starbucks????????

6. I think it has something to do with how they secure their coffee
it isn't "free trade", so it's very much NOT politically-correct. There might be more to it, but that's the general buzz I've heard. Plus, I think people are turned off to the worldwide corporate nature of Starbucks. They're EVERYwhere!!

:hi:

8. They're everywhere and, I LOVE THEM. Serious Starbucks since 1991
My friends and I used to "mail order" our Starbucks from Seattle because there was no Starbucks location in Pittsburgh in 1991. I'm glad they are "everywhere" now...no more mail ordering.

Didn't know there were people calling them evil.

:hi:

11. We had no great coffee shops (mom/pop) before Starbucks here
Maybe that was an issue in some areas, but seriously, we had no real coffee shops like Starbucks in my area.

Plus, I had read that Starbucks was very fair to their growers and provided decent benefits to their employees (unlike the bastards at Walmart).

12. Hey I drink store brand coffee from a plastic can - often rewarmed in the
microwave - I know nothing about coffeeI (ask me about tequila, though) - it's just a complaint I have heard.

16. That's why we don't use them
Too big, too much backing for smaller shops to compete.

14. Good for you!
Unsolicited oppositional opinions really cheese me off, and if I ever get them I don't hesitate to tell the person so. While Starbucks is a chain corporation they are much better than many as you pointed out, so I don't get where numb-nuts gets off calling them evil. Chances are he was just another woefully misinformed twit.
