NBC has a 3 1/2-hour commercial for the Army |
|
The U.S. Army All-America Bowl, a high-school football game in San Antonio.
I'm just catching the last couple of minutes. Both teams (east and west) are wearing uniforms with "U.S. Army" in large letters, and they're getting lots of face time with sideline interviews and stuff. There are huge "An Army of One" banners in the end zones.
This is high-school football, gang. I wonder how much the DOD — that is, we — paid for it.
I think I'm gonna throw up.

1. It's a good opportunity for the players, BUT... |
|
...it is one long commercial for the US Army.
It's played in my quasi-ancestral home, so I tuned in occasionally.

3. I dunno about 'opportunity' |
|
Yeah, they get to be on teevee and get showcased and all that, but I wonder if they realize they're all shills. Or if they care.

San Antonio was chosen for this NATIONAL game because there is a large military presence there, and it's centrally located with a large tourism industry. This is not NOT!!!! a Texas thing.
This is my home, and I'm an AMERICAN.
Sorry for the rant, but dammit, I'm sick of people taking potshots at my home. I don't want these assholes in charge, and I'm working for change.

Texas is full of good Democrats, a lot of us are working hard to make a change here.
Bush was the first republican governor in the State of Texas.
I am proud of being a Texan.

8. Um, thanks, but Bush was not the first Republican Governor of Texas. |
|
Bill Clements was the first Republican Governor since Reconstruction. He served '79-'83 and '87-'91.

They start out as a Democrat, get elected and then become Republicans.
Texas was a really heavy duty Democrat State.

10. True, Texas used to be almost 100% Democratic. |

I just wanted to make sure the record was straight though. :)

12. There are a lot of generalizations and assumptions |
|
about Texas because most of what we hear and believe comes from Dallas or Houston, or redneck meccas like Lufkin. The thing is, Texas is so goddam BIG that any generalization about its people is just foolish. There's just way too much geography and resulting diversity to say "Texas is like..."
It's the same with Kollyforniya; pretty much everything people rip on about it comes out of the Bay Area or SoCal. But if you've spent any time here, you know that life along the coast is much different than in the Valley.
Suffice to say, quoting Oliver Wendell Holmes, "No generalization is worth a damn — including this one."
