I got Monovision Lasik done in April of last year. I was nearsighted (20/100 right eye, 20/150 left) with multiple astigmatisms in both eyes. Needed a new prescription and it was well past time for me to get bifocals (I was taking off my glasses to read) I decided to get Lasik done.
The surgery itself was not too bad, no real pain to speak of, just a little unnerving. A fair amount of pressure on the eye is the worst of it, but it is over so quickly by the time you're wondering if you did the right thing, they are done. If you follow the post-operative care schedule after you get home, nothing really to worry about there.
Since I am fifty and have worn glasses all my life, I didn't want to wear reading glasses so I chose monovision, left eye corrected for reading, right eye corrected for distance. It is great, I love it, but it took some time for my brain to get used to automatically switching focus from one eye to the other as I would go back and forth from distance to near. Automatic now, do it without noticing, and have 20/10 vision in my right (dominant) eye. Can see better now than I ever have, glasses, contacts, can't compare.
The first month was a real pain as I am a truck driver and do a lot of night driving. Took a lot of getting used to as eye strain is one of the job hazards. Used one hell of a lot of eye drops, but after six weeks things really came together. I did, however, get a prescription for driving glasses to correct the vision in my left eye for distance, as I would have trouble keeping focus in low light, twilight, and foggy conditions. The right lens is just plain glass, but when I wear them at night my vision is extremely sharp.
I am glad I got it done, and would recommend it to those that would. Very happy with the outcome.
