Just got back from seeing "Narnia". I loved it!!
I loved the opening sequence, setting up the action of the rest of the movie.

I loved the casting. I thought the kids were great, and the Witch! Yowza!!
She has to be the greatest non-animated villainess EVER!

I didn't think the religious allegory was heavy-handed AT ALL! Barely noticable in my opinion.

The soundtrack was also very good, I thought.

The battle sequences were great.

The Chronicles were my favorite books as a child, and I was very nervous that a movie would be terrible. But it gets a big "thumbs up" from me.

Bring on Prince Caspian!!!

:woohoo:

2. NO! Either "The Silver Chair" or "The Horse and His Boy"

The latter without the british racism towards Arabs. Jill and Aravis were just great -- wonderful, strong heroines.

on edit" THTWATW was great, wasn't it?

3. I wasn't a big fan.

I realize that they could only do so much with the story because it was already a book, but I still think they could have done some parts better.

I thought the final confrontation between the lion and the witch was really anti-climatic. I thought it was kind of silly that they would turn over the military planning to a boy with no experience at all. I also didn't understand how Christmas and Santa Claus came into play when there wasn't a Jesus is Narnia.

My biggest problem I had was with the ending. If the kids had grown completely up in Narnia only to return to being children wouldn't they have the minds of adults in the bodies of children?

I didn't think that the Christian message was too strong after watching it. After thinking about it for a couple of days though I realized that there were some very subtle messages in there. The lion coming back from the dead and releasing the animals that were trapped in stone is a metaphor for Jesus returning from the dead and releasing the souls of the dead.

7. The Christian Message ...

Is there something inherently wrong with a strong Christian message?

9. Nope. That's what many people went to see the movie for.
I was just giving my take on the overtness of the Christian message in the movie in response to the OP's opinion. I thought it was subtle at first but the more I thought about the movie the more I was able to pick it out.

10. Okay, just curious ...

Lewis was trying to convey a Christian message, in the more traditional sense. And by that I mean not in the modern fundie-psyhco-dumbass sense. While not being a Christian myself, I like the message, much as I like the moralistic undertones of Tolkien's (Lewis' best friend) work.

I asked beause I've seen some people bash this movie, sight unseen, simply because it was perceived to have a Christian message that modern fundie-psycho-dumbases (I think I should copyright that) might like.

6. Thumbs up here too. I do think it's funny if a lot of religious people go
see this because their church pimped it to them (and they probably don't know the real reason is that the producer is a big time Repub and Bush backer)...

"Mommy, but there weren't magic lions and satyrs and centaurs and witches in the Bible, were there?"

8. It is a good movie ...

Like LotR, I could find things to pick at if I wanted, but I tried very hard to go into the experience with an open mind, seeing this as a film in its own right. As a faithful representation of the book I love, it comes close to succeeding, much as LotR came close, so I didn't have to do much mental separation.

Absent the context of the books entirely, it's an excellent movie, suitable for the entire family. Go see it, now.
