What did you do for the Millennium?
Share your story.

I was on a desert island (well, we were there so was it desert?) with a small group of friends in the South Pacific - some of the first people in the world to welcome in the Millennium. Here's a pic of the sunset with our bonfire ready to be lit -

2. oops. I can't remember what I did for 2001.
I guess it wasn't that much fun for me. And I know I wasn't drunk. Can't recall...

4. since I'm a new mom,
I was asleep by 10pm. There was just no way I was gonna stay up - too tired. We took our girl to a party and were home by 7:30pm. Maybe next year we'll stay up.

How was yours?

7. I too was on a desert island in the south Pacific--
the EXTREME South Pacific, and it was a cold and frozen desert. Alright, I was drinking in the helicopter hangar for the Kiwi's Scott Base on Ross Island.

Which Island were you on? Did you sail to it? It looks lovely.

9. 'Uoleva...
in Ha'apai, Tonga. We took a motor boat to it. I was in the Peace Corps in Tonga at that time.

Dang, Ross Island looks way too cold for me!

11. There is just something wonderful about islands in the Pacific
to be quite honest, I'm not much of a beach guy (I do a bit of diving though) and humidity kinda bums me out, but I just love the corners of the planet that are almost forgotten and so out of the way.

It's gonna take me awhile, but I will visit Tarawa and Yap, and if I can swing it (probably on some voyage out of Vanuatu) I've just GOTTA make it to Pitcairn's Island. A friend of mine spoke highly of the Solomon Islands as well. :hi:

8. Tooled around in my brand new flying car.
Ate a three course meal that was squeezed into a single pill. Washed it down with a glass of Tang.

10. Groan
I went to dinner with some friends and got sick on the rich food. The lobster bisque did me in.

Now my kids had a much better time. One was in Brazil and greeted the New Millenium on a beach in Rio. The other one spent the night on an Indian reservation in Tuba Arizona playing pool then drove to the Grand Canyon to watch the sun rise.

Maybe if I had been younger, I would have come up with something interesting and memorable to do. I did manage to get out of bed long enough to walk around the hill and watch the fireworks over San Francisco.

Oh well, better luck next millenium.

12. If you mean Jan. 1, 2000,
a friend and I, wondering whether the Y2K "disaster" would really happen, rented an airplane and flew around the Minneapolis-St. Paul area waiting for the electric grid to go down, not that we actually thought it would. (This was actually at 6:00 p.m., because if the grid went down it would go at 24:00 GMT, which is 6:00 p.m. CST). So anyhow, nothing happened, but it was pretty cool because there weren't any other airplanes out there, not even at MSP. Y2K turned out to be a big deal over nothing, but it was a nice night to fly.

If you mean the transition from 2000 - 2001. Ice storm. Bad. Managed booze shack. It actually had power while my house didn't, and I couldn't even get to my house because of all the downed trees. Owner also owned the convenience store next door, which had food. I lived for nearly a week in that building.

If you mean 1999 - 2000, I listened to Prince and watched TV to check if any missiles were headed our way.
