That's it! I'm never leaving the house again.
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 02:33 AM by RevCheesehead
Today I had to venture forth and run off the bulletins for church. As I walked in the door, I was greeted with the overwhelming stench of detergent. (note to self: must speak to custodian about amount of detergent used in washing floors)

This was no ordinary stench - it burned as I inhaled the fumes. I could not escape it, since it permeated the secretary's office, my office, and the hallways. Then the horrible realization and that all-too-familiar tingle deep in the sinus passages...

I left as quickly as I could, then went to the grocery store. About midway through the aisle of OLIVES and other condiments, I began to sneeze, cough, and drip... and, I didn't have any kleenex.

Now I am sniffling, coughing, and fighting to breathe normally. In six hours, I have to be awake and getting ready for church. I'd rather pull the covers over my head and stay in bed all day. :(

1. How HORRIBLE for you!
I do hope you get over it soonest...

Is there someone you can call to take over for you in the morning?

Sounds to me as though you should stay in tomorrow.....

Get better! You are essential to the Lounge's mental health!

2. LOL - more like the Lounge's mental illness!
I've just had a week off (vacation), and am finally feeling better from my December laryngitis. This is the LAST thing I want to happen. And there's really no way to call someone else in at the last minute.

I'll stand at the back, greeting people - but no hugs or shaking hands. :(

(The hugs are my favorite part of church!)

5. Hey I always reply.....sooner or later!
Looks like it's just you and me tonight.....

KW must be disporting herself tonight....or else she's still working on her computer!

BTW, I mentioned the idea of a road trip from Green Bay down to the meetup in Cedar Point, with the three of us....and she was up for it!

Depends on when she moves though.....

But you and I could still do it......:loveya:

8. Cedar Point is an amusement park in, I believe, Ohio......
About 60-70 miles from Cleveland....

KW and WCGreen were talking about having a big meet-up there..in the spring, probably June.

I am going to go.

So you and I and maybe her could drive down to it......

Yes, I think that a road trip with us three would be a scream too!

The Rev, the witch, and me! We did discuss this earlier, I believe.....

I dunno - June is a busy time for me. It would depend on the dates (and, of course, my mom's health).

Do you really think Chris could bear to see that much estrogen at one time?

20. That's about my limit, as well.
If even. I have a mild fear of heights (it used to be terrible, but I worked on desensitizing myself).

Maybe those who enjoy such things can go there, and the rest of us can hang out somewhere else. :)

I'm off to sleep, perchance to dream. :hi:

14. Phone it in. Or pawn off the business on some kind of subdeacon.
Call one of the parishoners, invoke the "Priesthood of all belivers", and tell them to step up to the plate. My sympathies, I gotta be up at 7 for a friend's baptism

16. Ugh!
There's somebody who fills in here sometimes that is like that. She'll saturate the entire tub and tile surround with Clorox Cleanup, then leave it sit there for a good 30-60 minutes. She doesn't turn on the fan or open the window, so the entire house reeks of bleach and cleaner within minutes, and we're all suffocating from the fumes. In reality, bleach disinfects within a few minutes so there is no need to leave it on so long, and the amount she uses is definite overkill. However getting those ideas through to her is impossible.

I definitely feel for you Rev.

19. Thanks, Buff.
Our custodian's a really nice woman, but slightly mentally challenged. She's also stubborn, and has her own set ways about doing things. But if the church is gonna smell like this every week, I'm not going to be able to show up there.

Thanks for the

22. One thing I've discovered
People who are "mentally challenged" do sometimes have stubborn streaks. However there are plenty of people with allegedly perfectly normal mental faculties who are just as stubborn. They want to do things their way no matter how much policy, logic or fact you impress upon them. It makes me want to :banghead: .

But I'll need to check with the doctor to make sure it doesn't interfere with any other meds I'm taking.

Does it help after one has the symptoms - or just before?

31. I prefer Emergen-C
I couldn't get the Airborne tablets to dissolve quickly enough. Emergen-C is in powdered form, so you just pour it in a small glass, add water, then slam it like a tequila shot.

Emergen-C is just a bunch of vitamins in mega-doses. If I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, I use that stuff 2 or 3 times a day & the symptoms go away. :)

Glad to hear you're better! :) Is your mom doing ok? I saw she was back in the hospital.

Mom's still in the hospital, and will be there until Tuesday. She has viral pneumonia - very dangerous, given her condition. I'm glad she's there, getting the best care possible. If I were feeling better, I'd be headed there right now.

Thank you, my friend.

40. During recent cold, started taking it right away, and then
after I stopped when I began to feel better (symptoms disappearing), I started to feel punky again. So, I started the Airborne and Zicam together and immediately began to feel better. Even when I didn't couple it with the Zicam during the few days of feeling symptoms returning, the Airborne helped tremendously with immediate results :-)

21. Hey, Rev.
What kind of church do you pastor? I gave up on religion when I was 18, after having been forced to attend services and anything else churchly, everytime the doors opened. Southern Baptist. Ugghgh!

I've been reading up on Unitarian Universalism, but we have no churches nearby. I've had very personal battles about religion...sometime I'd like to have a PM conversation with you about it.

25. Hi, Maddy
You must have posted this after I went to bed.

I'm United Methodist. That means different things in different parts of the country. Up here, we're more mainline protestant, whereas down south, many UMC's are more baptist - and more conservative.

I'd be more than happy to have a conversation with you, anytime. :)

BTW - nice to see the froggie is back! (sig lines back on) :hi:

As soon as I got to the church (the 2nd service), I plugged up again. I think since Kathy saw me so sick, she understood that it was trouble for me.

I'm checking in, then going to take a nap. I love Sunday afternoons! :)

it's always the janitor.

Of course, if you paid $12 an hour, you could get a quality janitor like me who used to be a valedictorian. As I say, when the valedictorian mops your floor, you can tell it wasn't done by a mere salutatorian.
