Volare, oh oh!
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 04:35 AM by JVS

Cantare, oh oh oh oh
Let's fly way up to the clouds
Away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like bird of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find

Volare, oh oh
E contare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings

Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me

Volare, oh oh
E cantare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassu

4. Also, it must never be called merely "Corinthian leather"...
the proper term in its fullness is "rich Corinthian leather", also acceptable is "rich Corinthian pleather" if one wishes to speak mockingly of the car endorsed so eloquently by Ricardo Montalban

7. I fail to find the humor in that. It's illogical.
It's called....a....joke, Spock.

You....should.....learn to.....laugh.

10. I loved it when Letterman put Montalban on the spot about it:
DL: So, come on... what, exactly, is "rich Corinthian leather"?

RM: It's the most rich...

DL: Yeah, yeah, but what does it mean?

RM: It's... well... I...

DL: It doesn't actually mean anything, does it, Ricardo?

RM: Of course... it's...

DL: It's what...?

RM: ALRIGHT, IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING!!

11. I had a '78 Volare wagon, very much like the pic.
"It's new for '78
Get a load of that big-car ride
So much room to strtch out inside"

(from the Volare ad lyrics, to the tune of Volare).

I preferred my '78 AMC Concorde wagon, though. It was Phone Company surplus. $600 and it ran forever. If it hadn't eventually rusted away, it'd still be running.

IIRC, the Volare I had only for a few months in 1983, and the Concorde I had from '83 to '85.

Technically I still have the Concorde. I parked it in a remote clearing in the back forty at my mom's old place when I was went overseas. It was still there when she moved in 2000. The axles were so overgrown with weeds and grass that a tow truck couldn't budge it. There is a tree growing through the engine bay, and there was a family of coyote pups living in it for a time. It's actually sinking into the ground. Last time I saw it, the bottom half of the wheels were underground. Luckily it's parked out of sight; you have to walk quite a way to even find it, and it's surrounded by trees.

14. Oh those cars were new then! I have an 89 civic and it's getting bad
I think I'm going to look for a crown vic or grand marquis when it dies.

15. Crown Vics:
I've bought a few through the WA state General Admin office's surplus auction:

http://www.ga.wa.gov/surplus/AUCT-CAL.HTM

And through Kansas City:

http://www.kcpolicecars.com/ (relatively expensive but very reliable)

And eBay has great deals on them.

If you're going to buy one, look for a "P7" in the VIN. That designates the "police package" of a stronger motor/tranny, and better cooling system, brakes, and suspension. Plus you seldom get parking tickets :)

18. If you're going to post those lyrics...
It is required that you also post a picture of Dean Martin.
