Why is "Big" called "Big"? :shrug:

Edit: I don't have cable so I just started watching the show on a local network 2 weeks ago.

1. I think it is because he was a Big Businessman, possibly a

well known person. Carrie nicknames him that in the first episode when she is seemingly running into him everywhere she goes and they do not even know each other's names.

If you watch the series faithfully, you will see that many of the boyfriends of the four women have nicknames or code names that the women use

At the very end of the last episode. Carrie's cell phone rings and we see his name on the caller ID.

and she's writing about him and trying to be discrete. Because everyone will know who she's talking about if she mentions his name.

The joke is that everyone calls him Big, even in private conversation. You'll notice that even in intimate situations with him, Carrie never calls him by name.
