Newsflash from GD: Feminism has caused women to be alone!
:banghead: :banghead:

AND women NEED men!

.
.
.
.
.

Reading this shit is so...sad. To see such neanderthal bile being spewed about on feminism is just...sad.

And now I'm off to get coffee and a movie with my SO-- not because I need him, but because I chose to. :hi:

2. no
The majority of men not being able to handle women demanding to be treated as full members of the human race has caused women to be alone.

10. nobody "needs" each other
It diminished free will. You need companionship-- not necessarily of the opposite gender.

Companionship isn't just about sex either...

16. That's one of the great things about feminism
Sure no man or woman is an island - but what you "need" is to be strong and self-reliant and a society that allows and promotes that. Then you can truly choose to be with someone - as friends, lovers, spouses, whatever.

Khash.

27. I disagree. We all need each other.
Desperately, even.

You may not be religious, but the following sentiment applies nonetheless:

"When we take a survey of nature, we view man in his infancy more helpless and indigent than the brute creation; he lies languishing for days, months and years, totally incapable of providing sustenance for himself, or guarding against the attack of wild beasts of the field, or sheltering himself from the inclemencies of the weather.

It might have pleased the great Creator of heaven and earth to have made man independent of all other beings; but, as dependence is one of the strongest bonds of society, mankind were made dependent upon each other for protection and security, as they thereby enjoy better opportunities of fulfilling the duties of reciprocal love and friendship. Thus was man formed for social and active life; the noblest part of the work of God; and he that will so demean himself as not to be endeavoring to add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding, may be deemed a drone in the hive of nature, a useless member of society..."

And let us remember that the first being that gave us comfort, nourishment, and shelter was a female; our mothers. So, yes, I acknowledge that I need and seek the comfort and companionship of other human beings. Especially those of a female persuasion.

Independence be damned.

33. "No person eats by their own hands alone":
to paraphrase Kim Stanley Robinson from "The Years of Rice and Salt"

We all need other people. I really desperately need a whole list of people to provide services for me. I in turn provide desperately needed or desired services for many people.

What we need rather than feminism is compassion. "Feminism" has come to mean so much more that wanting my daughters to have rights, respect and opportunities. Some of what it now means to people is ugly and unsupportable.

No I will not argue about what. No time for a flamewar.

23. like a moth to fire...
I had to seek it out. UGH. I had already read the news item, so I had skipped the thread earlier.

You would think, from some responders, that we were back in 1979 and there was a national push for the ERA and folks were feeling threatened, and thus reacting in extreme ways (like there were only going to be unisex public bathrooms if the ERA was passed - and that was somehow scary and effective for some folks). Geez.

That and women serving in the military in combat. Funny how those "fear buttons" are nearly irrelevant now.

14. A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle
But sometimes they like spending time with us :)

I really can't understand why people aren't feminists. Every man has a sister, mother, daughter or wife - doesn't he want the people he loves to be treated fairly? And women - surely they want to be treated fairly.

I'm a feminist for the same reason I'm anti-racist - pure self interest. If they are denied the opportunity to contribute to society, then I am denied the opportunity of appreciating or benefiting from their contributions.

Khash.

24. I don't "need" them...
I DO like and love them. And having raised 2 to adulthood, I carry on with dear friends scarcely older than my "babies" who come around just to hang out and discuss our common interests, create artwork or teach me how to keep up with the technology. They respect my experience, confide in me about their relationships, ask me about my "take" and won't leave ME alone... For which I am thankful as they truly decorate my life. ;-)

There are so many ways to relate intimately...

I know firsthand. I have had my share of boyfriends, and I swore off relationships 13 years ago. I've had it with insecure, immature men who think women have to look like lesser beings to make these men-children feel better.
