1. I'm just hoping and praying that there is still an auto for Detroit
to even think about revamping these days. I hope it isn't soon some other place. :( You should see the "For Lease" signs up, all over town, in the windows of once booming suppliers.

2. I meant "Detroit" as a figure of speech.
Kind of like "The Man." And that does suck. The Big 3 killed my baby...

3. Oh, I know...I just got done reading the Detroit Free Press and am
in a pretty downer type mood. Hope I haven't just wrecked your thread. As penance, I'll keep it kicked.

9. I'm curious as to what you mean by that.
"The Big 3 killed my baby?" Do you mean AMC, or Studebaker, or is it something more personal?

Redstone

(With fond memories of hanging around my great-uncle's Studebaker dealership in the late 1950s, and the wish that I could get my mitts on a Super Hawk.)

11. Aha. Thanks for the explanation. But I do miss AMC if for only one
thing; are you old enough to remember the TV commercials for the Rambler Rebel, where they were driving the car in Mexico, and while they were parked, a Mexican looked them up and down and solemnly asked, "You going to drive that thing in the Baja? (The hook was that a Rebel had recently won its class in the Baja 1000 race.)

It was a classic commercial. Doesn't work well in print, but if you'd seen the commercial, you'd understand.

13. Sorry but why is " Detroit" just a figure of speech?
Maybe I missed a nuance.

17. I'm sorry- did I offend you?
Since it's too late to go back and edit, my question is:

"Which auto model should the automotive industry revive next?

Sheesh- it's just a freaking Lounge poll.

35. No this wasn't meant to be hostile.
I'm so sorry. Detroit is/was the home of the automotive world, I just wondered why you thought you needed to change it. We are proud of it. No offense meant.

36. Sorry!
Yeah, I meant "Detroit" as a colloquial term for the automotive industry.

Much in the way Pittsburgh is still a "steel town." :)

4. You meant to say "revive," not "revamp."
Edited on Sun Jan-08-06 09:27 PM by Redstone
"Revamp" indicates changing somethign that's in current production. "Revive" means to bring back something that's out of production.

16. I'm still going with the Grand National/GNX of the late '80's
I want a car that will look cool, carry a family of six (safely), a bunch of groceries, and STILL make a Corvette regret pulling up next to me. Of course, that's still while getting 20+mpg on average.

And no company made a door handle like AMC. Those pull-out latches were the best.
