did you ever feel
like it was time to just wipe the slate clean and start over from scratch?

1. yes ..
and I did. and I'm not sure it was the right thing to do, but it's done and I AM happy. Just not sure what I'd do if I had to do it all over again, but then, it's a moot point right?

8. perhaps it's a fait accompli, but not necessarily moot
are things different? better? happier?

If you're happier, then congratulations.

5. Yep. Often.
I used to fantasize about just getting in my car and driving until I ran out of gas. And wherever that was.... just starting a new life there with my old life totally forgotten..

II still think of that some times....

Khash.

12. I'd do that, but
I'm not sure my car would clear the city limits! LOL

What's the closest you ever came to doing it? Ever actually just start driving, not sure that you'd go through with it?

25. Yeah, I did start out
I left SF and started heading down the PCH. Eventually turned around. A good idea since the car was rented.

A couple years ago, I got so sick of my life in Houston I headed out I10 heading west.

Both times I realized that what I was trying to escape was either inescapable (a fact of life) or something I had control over. And either way I was taking it with me. So might as well go home and look it in the face and either conquer it or learn to live with it.

Khash.

15. did you actually do it
or just think about it

I think it would be harder for nearly everyone to actually do it than they think it would. We define ourselves by all the things we have and do and by what others expect of us way more than we think we do or would like to.

34. Every day of my misbegotten life.
Unfortunately I take my responsiblities seriously. Live and die with my choices. On the upside, I live in one of the most beautiful states in the US. Sitting on the shore of a great lake in november will blow all bad away.

39. I wish I could go back in time
Albeit knowing what I do now, and begin from age 17 again. There is so much I would do differently. Alas I can do no such thing so I'm rather stuck with what I have now.

44. Probably why the "Hindsight is 20/20" expression came about
If we knew exactly what to do when we were young, everything would be perfect. Alas, we only think we know everything when we are young, then once we are older we realize we really knew nothing. Wouldn't it be great if we could age in reverse like people from Ork? :silly:

41. Buffy I felt that way for years.
I was swimming in regret. There's a whole world of things I could and should do differently. But I'm tired of letting my past have that kind of hold on me. We've got to learn from the bad and enjoy the good, and live well in the present.

If my life wasn't so damn stagnant. Maybe once I get my MLIS (if I ever get it) and get a real job I'll stop feeling this way.

43. Sometimes I wish I could, too.
But if I did things differently, some magical elements of my life would not exist.

Like my children. Some really dear friends. And all the valuable lessons that were learned as a result of painful experience.

You're not stuck, Buffy. Look inside the box...there are gifts in there.

46. Good points
I do realize that if I'd done things on the other path I imagine I would not have met certain people who have been of great benefit to me. I just sometimes wonder how different things could have been had I taken a different path.

Thanks for the hug.
