Does it upset you when people don't say 'thank you'....? |
|
...upset--sad, angry, etc.?
When people don't thank you for something you've done, aren't thankful for situations in their life or just don't seem to have the word in their vocabulary in general? How do you feel about it...?

11. As a kid, no matter what we got |
|
we were taught to call relatives to thank them personally, or to write thank you notes--FOR EVERYTHING! No matter how small or insignificant--even if it was obviously used previously (lol-not kidding, got a few of those over the years). We thanked EVERYONE!
I'm so shocked and appalled when I see people these days in stores, anywhere--not saying 'thanks.'

"Oh, You are so VERY welcome." or "something along those lines, and then mutter something else to myself while walking away.
It's really not THAT hard to be kind, polite or to take the couple of seconds to at least ACKNOWLEDGE a kindness no matter how small. Sheesh!!

It used to bother me a lot more than it does now. For me, being genuinely gracious is the right thing to do, but I've no control over others' behavior.

we have no control over others' behaviour.
Doesn't mean one doesn't have a reaction to that behaviour. You're fortunate that it doesn't bother you as much as it used to...

I used to have to remind my ex to thank people all the time. That was a strong clue to get out of that relationship.

24. Remember the parable of the Ten Lepers? |
|
Ten came to him for healing. He told them, "go and wash in the pool". As they were going on their way, they were healed. Of those 10, one came back to thank him.
Put in a different light, it's a lot like tithing, isn't it? (think about that for a while, before you respond... tithing = 10%)

very little of what you put out there, comes back? (guessing here...)
When one tithes, you're supposed to tithe from the heart--giving not expecting to get anything back. That's all I recall on the concept of tithing taught.

29. If one leads a life of gratitude, |
|
you realize that all you have comes from God as a gift. Out of all of our abundance, doesn't 10% seem insignificant in comparison to all that we have?
Tithing, IMO, is our way of saying thanks to God. Remember, tithing includes not just your money (gifts), but your time, your presence, and your service.

Probably helpful to not allow our egos to get involved or expect anything in return, no matter what the circumstances.

32. That's the tricky part. |
|
I remember getting angry when I brought over several bags of groceries to someone who needed it from church (many years ago). She never said thanks, or expressed appreciation for what people bought for her.
Now, I can look back on it and realize that a)she probably didn't know any better b)she may have been more embarrassed than I realized c)the one with the problem was me, not her. I was simply supposed to help feed her, not stick around for praise.

33. What a great example! |
|
It's hard...we are human, not perfect like jesus was... But I think I understand what you are saying. Thank you for such a wonderful example, Rev!
For me, it doesn't feel like being after praise as much as sincerely wanting to know that someone liked what you picked out, or enjoyed it, etc. I guess after thinking about it, one really shouldn't need that validation, though--and I should examine my motivation if I have to have that, perhaps...Maybe that equates to praise--I don't know.

Sometimes people are just too ashamed to say thank you. I figure that I don't want to contribute to their burden. Do what you can do, and let it go. Forget it, and move on. Don't let yourself be defined by the thank you's and praise. On edit, I'm sorry for sounding didactic. Its late, and I'm tired and stupid.

while driving. You know, those times when you just be the nice guy and let someone over in your lane because you've watched the last ten people cut them off. A simple wave is all I ask. The lack there of just comes as an insult to me.

but your response made me laugh aloud--I saw the whole scenario in my head. LOL! Been there. The person being let in and waving, and the person letting people in and getting the little wave. It's so funny that that little wave communicates so much.

to "Thank You." One of these days I'm going to blow a gasket on that one. It bothers me less that some people don't say thank you; I just assume they were raised by wolves. :P

Robert Heinlein said the first sign of a sick society is the lack of civility and politeness. He was right. So it makes me sad for our society - but I just assume these people were never taught any better.
