I've been looking for months now, with no luck. I was just browsing the list of "matches" I have with my state unemployment office. One job wanted me to have my own laptop, which they expected me to do their work on. How nice. Now, if I could only afford a laptop. Another job wants me to pay up front for my own drug screen. Why? You want to make sure I'm not getting high, you fucking pay for it!
I saw the shrub the other day talking about our strong economy. Yes, there seem to be tons of openings all of a sudden. However, every job that came up was at a lower rate of pay than the last job I worked, and much more of a drive. That job was $2 below the one before it.
So, maybe I can get two or three of *'s new jobs. I'll never see my kids, but we'll be off of Food Stamps. Oh, but the kids will still need Chips, because if any of these jobs offer insurance, I won't be able to afford it.

I have excellent skills, and training...The jobs out there for me want to pay LESS than the same job paid two or more years ago. It also seems that the only jobs available are on the NW side of Houston (most of them, anyway), which is where the nasty traffic is, and is not anywhere near my house. So, I'll be driving a greater distance, using more gas (my car is fuel efficient, thankfully), for less pay. Make sense to you?

7. There was a time when I worked two jobs at once just to make ends meet |

in South Carolina. I never really had a problem making money in Houston. My kids are 12 nearly 10, and while I like being here when they get home, living on unemployment sucks. I can't give up yet...Must...find...job...

10. I've had a lot of days lately where I don't even want to get out of bed |
|
I get up, get the kids out, and sleep. If I don't get a job soon, I might lose my mind completely.

I checked Dallas and Austin on one website tonight...I don't really want to relocate, but will if I must.

America is pretty big and has many opportunities out there. Maybe a broader search is in order? (if it's family I completely understand that aspect)

I still look for jobs and even apply even though I have a job. I have not tried any on-line options, although I did suggest to one group that I could be a researcher from home. Heck, I probably would work more than a 40 hour week for that without expecting more than 40 hours of pay.
The paper is full of bad jobs, or good jobs that require 2 or three years of experience and expertise with software that I do not use at home. Job offices have been totally useless. One asked me "what kind of job do you want?" as if that was a relevant question. I am, like, show me the people willing to hire me, and I will pick the lesser of evils.
Anyway, keep your chin up. I am rooting for you.
