Here's Your Chance! NAME MY NEW BABY!!!
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 04:51 PM by new_beawr
We're having another Child. We don't know the gender. The Middle names have been chosen, they are Elisha (boy) and Lynn (girl). If we select your suggestion, you will win a prize, probably diapers.... For those that want to consider how the name scans, my last name has three syllables, emphasis on the second....

On Edit: Mom's Jewish and I'm Scottish, so something like Shlomo Angus might work....

But for some reason, I really dislike Geoffrey. Something seems odd about it.

But I agree with you, the shortened form "Jeff" is rather bland and uninteresting.

7. Solid names are always "in fashion"
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 04:44 PM by SoCalDem
David, Steven, Robert, Michael, Aaron, Anthony, Scott

Elizabeth, Susan, Diane, Mary, Cynthia, Paula

The "names of the moment" seem unusual, but your child might end up with 5 Madisons, 4 jennifers, 6 Ashleys in kindergarten..

an "established" name might be the unusual when he/she goes to school..

I always suggest to my young friends having babies..to imagine that name on the door of an executive suite or a business card ...:)

21. You are in luck.
I just thought of one the other day, but it includes a middle name too. Fortunately, I can't remember the middle name. Albert was the first one, in honor of Albert Einstein and/or Al Gore.

Also, Dominic is another cool name.

Also, my long standing favorite is Simon Christopher. Simon is in honor of John Simon Ritchie, better known as Sid Vicious. And Christopher is in honor of Chris Stein, guitarist for Blondie.

With the girl's names, good luck. The only ones I can think of are Yoshi, which I think is a boy's name in reality, and Nellie (or Nell) which was my grandmother's name. That would be sweet. A little girl somewhere named in memory of her. I still miss her every day. I have no children. I guess you can tell I only have the imaginary Simon Christopher and he is a genius, who is both athletic and gentle all at the same time. I dream.

Noah and Ty, both cute names and since I don't know you it wouldn't be weird for you to take them :P

I know a girl who named her twin boys Aidan and Quinn, claims she had never heard of the actor, so it's a tough decision, even if you think you are choosing a "normal" name.

I like Lauren for a girl, at least that's what Ty would have been if.... after my grandmother.

63. A fane Sco'ish nom?
For a girl, Heather and for a boy, Liam or Sean. Though you'd probably need to change the middle name for the boy.

And not that it's any of my business, but you did ask! I'd stay away from the name of anyone in the family if you can. I made it easy and went with a fictional character's name (Jeremy, the son in To Kill a Mockingbird). That book (and therefore the name) holds dear meaning for me, and I wanted my son's name to be something more than just a name we chose from a list of thousands. But that's just me! :)

77. "something like Shlomo Angus might work...."
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 04:34 PM by BlueIris
If this is in any sense true, (couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not) I LOVE YOU!!!!! Angus is one of those classic names I think has gotten a bad rap and I'm trying to bring it back. Last time I brought it up as a possible baby name for use by DUers about to become parents, people mocked me.

Okay, my suggestion, which works for either a boy or a girl: Tatum. Yes, after Tatum O'Neil. Why? Tatum O'Neil recently published a book called "A Paper Life" about her past with her father, who abused both her and her brother. When she was interviewed about the book on Larry King, King read a letter denouncing Tatum's "version" of the abusive circumstances she was raised in, written by her brother. Though crying and visibly disturbed, Tatum said only that she was saddened that her brother was obviously still desperate for her father's love, hence the reason the brother had written the letter. She then explained that many abusers, particularly those who abuse their own kids, offer "love" to the children in order to manipulate them into doing what the abusers want. In my opinion, it took a lot of guts for Tatum to do that (not a popular thing to do in Hollywood, incidentally, out your own father as an abuser) and it was important for her to try to educate her readers and fans about this little-understood aspect of abusive relationships.

This is an increasingly abusive society. I really admire people who are trying, despite adversity and personal risk to themselves, to bring real knowledge to others about how they can get themselves away from any abusers they find themselves in contact with. So, I think a name linked to a person who had as much strength, intelligence and character as Tatum O'Neil has shown herself to have, particularly with regard to these issues, would be a TERRIFIC name for any kid. But if it doesn't thrill you, I have others.

81. If it's a girl, try Zoe, or Sascha, or Tatiana/Tatyana......
...OK, I'm a sucker for those Byzantine/Russian names. If it's a boy, I have no clue. I like girl's names better.

83. I knew a girl named Elisha. Pretty girl, nice name.
But please eliminate Shlomo. Kids, these days, have enough to deal with. I actually do like Angus, but the only Angus I've known was a Scottie. The suggestions made me think of my friends, who named their daughters Grace Elizabeth and Lynne Marie. Fortunately, we seem to be returning to traditional names. Unusual is fine, but the names I've seen in the local paper make me shudder. A boy named Spyder sticks in my mind. Just remember that your child has to live with whatever you choose. Congrats and good luck. BTW, have you considered...
