Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 05:15 PM by Rabrrrrrr
A doe and waht appears to young 'un. They're eating the reeds in the marsh. I'd post a pic, but my camera is elsewhere. Damn!! I wish I hadn't left it at my grandmother's.

beautiful!

18. Isn't that the truth. I'm contemplating getting one of those pen cams,
just for quick snapshots.

5. Goddamn laws - I've never been so perfectly situated to shoot a deer
:grr:

But no, we have to abide by fucking hunting season, and by "no rifle shooting in town" and all that bullshit.

Fucking fuckers.

6. Well, I dug out the 35mm and had at it - shot about 24 pics of them.
Got some nice shots, but I only had 100 speed film ready to go, and it is just a bit too dark for it so I was shooting at 1/20 or so of a sec with a 300mm lens.

I have a pretty steady hand, so I think I should get a few good ones out of the batch.

I fired off 6-7 shots of one deer whose body was completely pointed away from me, but was looking behind him/herself straight at me.

10. I have a scanner, but it refuses to talk with the computer
and always has...

kind of a waste to keep it, but on the other hand, it was pricey.

It even has a slide scanner that can handle 120 film. WHich is the sole reason I bought the SOB.

Scanners fucking suck. I've never had one that would work with a computer, whether it be win98 or WinXP.

13. I have a flatbed in the closet. Same thing.
I think maybe that computers and the scanners routinely have some sort of spat and we get caught in the crossfire. :eyes:

14. And I don't know understand why scanners can't come with good software
It's always some bizarre-ass piece of shit seemingly third-party software, even with my really nice scanner.

And considering that every other fucking device in the world just plugs in, why do the scanners have to have such a goddamn awful and impossible installation procedure? "Boot computer into safe mood and install software with scanner and computer disconnected; after installation, reboot in normal mode and fuck around with the registry for a while; reboot; plug scanner into USB port as computer is booting, after it scans the memory but before it detects the harddrive, and reach in with your hand and massage the glass on the scanner from the underside until the autodetect wizard in windows appears and tells you that you have a new device attached to computer and it appears to be a floppy drive; say "no", and scream for a minute, until wizard disappears. Reboot computer, unplugging scanner from the wall outlet exactly 3.26 seconds before computer shuts down, unplug USB during the 0.04 seconds the computer is off, replug into wall outlet, and jam the USB cord into a different port than you used last time and do so before the computer scans its memory for viruses. If you don't have a virus checker, then re-install operating system becuase you've fucked eberything up now."

When the only camera you have is digital.......

I prefer my life to be simple. That's all I'm saying...

17. I'm a pretty serious photographer, though, so I won't go digital.
I use my digital camera a lot for the casual stuff - inventory of my artwork, family reunions, gatherings of friends, etc.: shots in which the quality isn't all that important.

But for my serious work, it's pretty much all medium format nowadays.

But if the cost of digital goes down for good quality (and for me, even the new $1000 SLR digital cameras aren't what I'm looking for), which it will in ten years or so, I'll probably be all digital.

20. Ok, I understand that.....you must be a very serious photographer...
Serious as in professional?

That means that the praise you lavished on me the other day was truly earned...

Those pictures, and all the ones I've posted here, are digital. Nikon D50 with a 38-200mm Tamron lens.

Now, would you be so kind as to explain what "medium format" is?

I have an idea, but not a definite one.

I thank you...

21. Medium Format means that the film is larger than 35mm
Usually taking a frame that's 6x6cm (~2.5"x2.5") or 6x7cm.

The benefit being much better resolution of the image, because it coveres so much more film area. Much a digital camera increases resolution with more pixels, in cameras, film can only physically have so many "pixels" per square inch (metaphorically speaking), so in order to get higher resolution, you have to increase the number of pixels by increasing the film size.

Higher resolution in film cameras, like digital, means that one can blow them up much larger without it looking fuzzy or grainy.

And no, I'm not a professional photographer, but I take "professional level" photos, one could say. Not quite fully professional, because I don't use the $10,000 pro lenses; but quality-wise and artistically-wise, they're pretty much at a pro level, I should imagine.
