Has any one had lasik eye surgery? |
|
I'm planning on having it done sometime in the next few months. Any one have any problems when they had it done? Are you glad or do you regret having it done?

1. I have a lasik horror story |
|
in the interest of full disclosure. I have a friend who has had it done three times, and still has to wear glasses because they screwed his eyes up so much.

4. Hell, I got him beat twelve ways from Sunday |
|
I've had it done 10(!) times.
My eyes dry quickly (poor tear production) and the presription that they laser onto the cornea does not hold, as my cornea does not heal perfectly round due to the dryness.
BTW, I had the surgeries done by one of the best guys in the country, if not the world.
(hint: think Tiger Woods)
P.S. My eyesight is just about what it was before the surgeries, so there was no real problem there. I have, however, been told that I get a starring role in the next textbook written by this particular surgeon, as I am (literally) the one in 500,000 that has this complication. :)

I am glad I had it done, I went from horribly nearsighted (unable to function at all without glasses) to not needing glasses.
I chose a doc in Windsor, Ontario to do it because the Canadians have been doing it longer.
As with anything, there are risks involved. If the benefit is worth the risk, go for it.

5. My mom had it done and really appreciated it. |
|
Of course, she's older so she still has to wear glasses for reading but she likes not having to wear them for driving.

6. I have, here's a piece of advice: |
|
Choose a doctor based upon reputation, not price. This is the type of thing where a doctor gets better with experience. If you're not willing to spend a significant amount of money (these are your eyes we're talking about), you probably shouldn't get it done.

8. Yes, I have. It'll be 7 yrs this coming March. |
|
Best money I ever spent!
Seriously, it's been a miracle in my life. I'd been wearing glasses and contacts for over 30 yrs when I had it done, so it was quite the transformative experience to be able to see clearly, without corrective lenses. It doesn't correct the condition of presbyopia, which is the natural aging of the retina...meaning, at some point, I might have to resort to reading glasses as I get older, but it will never get back to what it was.
I asked around and got a primo doctor, who came highly recommended. Make sure you get somebody who has done thousands upon thousands of them, and been around for a while. Makes a big difference. Plus, you gotta go through some sort of screening process to verify that you're even an appropriate candidate for the procedure. Not everybody is or has had such a positive experience. I was lucky.
Feel free to PM me if you wanna talk about it further, caty! :hi: Good luck and I send best wishes to you for clear vision! Shine

I am going to spend the next few months checking it out. One that was recommended did my husband's boss's eyes. He is highly recommended--but I will still check him out.

10. That's a funny coincidence that we have in common.... |
|
The eye doc that was recommended to me, and the one I ultimately went with, did MY hubby's boss' eyes, too. Weird, huh?
I just HAD to mention it, cuz it was a strange coincidence.....Good luck with your research! :hi:
