Random Acts of Kindness
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 12:11 AM by lizziegrace
As a follow-up to a thread started by William Pitt, do you have any of your own stories to share?

On NYE, I was working at the grocery store. A woman came through my line paying with foodstamps. Ohio has a system that uses cards (like credit cards) that are loaded on the first working day of the month. This was the last day of the month. She came in with just a few things and her biggest "splurge" was microwave popcorn. She thought she had $13 on her card, but only had $4. She stood there embarrassed and tried to figure out what to put back. A college student behind her in line waved her credit card and mouthed "I'll pay it". I set the system to accept a credit card payment for the balance and the girl paid it. The woman looked at me and said "what do I do now?" I said you go have a Happy New Year. It's covered. Her jaw dropped. I pointed to the student. The woman began to cry. I told her to go have a wonderful holiday.

Next?

1. I posted a story here last week about a student of mine
being raised by his grandparents and his grandpa had died. Grandma is worried about money and how she can afford to keep the 4 kids she is raising.

I had several DUers PM me with offers to help. If I didn't love this place before, I sure do now.

DUers rock!!

4. last year, during a snow storm, I was out with my Oxygen
tank strapped to my back, trying to help Mrs. WCGreen shovel out the driveway... A guy who was out with a plow saw me struggling... He pulled in, did the whole drive and refused money...
