YMCA
I was all over their website, and nowhere do they spell out the acronym. I think they consciously avoid spelling it out in order to be welcoming to all genders and religions.

The Y has a lot of good programs.

What do you think of the Y.

Would you be proud to be their Director of Fund Development?

1. Too damned expensive.

For my wife and me, it's $60 a month. For a family of 10 people, it's $60.

3. I go to the Y.
It's way less expensive than most commercial fitness centers, and makes me feel less self-conscious when I work out there.

4. Maybe I'd work out more if I got a job there.
I need to get in shape.

The branch in my neighborhood had a development position over, if you hadn't gathered that.

On one hand, I'd like to move away from the city--but there aren't that many job opportunities.

If we're going to stay, I need more money and a shorter commute.

This is $15K more per year and about 8 blocks from my apartment.

8. How's this sound?
Dear Mr. XXX,

As a long-time resident of XXXX, a mother, and a dedicated fundraising professional, I was thrilled to discover the opportunity to serve as Director of Fund Development and Communication for the XXXX YMCA. I believe the YMCA does vital and important work and I would be honored to lead the branch’s fundraising efforts and to manage the administrative aspects of the Strong Kids Campaign.

For the past several years, I have worked –and continue to work- in all aspects of development, communications and program support for a very unique breast cancer program affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center. I do feel an enormous loyalty for the organization, however, I am moved by the opportunity to do work that directly benefits the families of XXX. I am a strongly community-oriented person and it would be wonderful to work in my own neighborhood for such a worthy organization.

I very much look forward to meeting you in person. I will call to follow up in the coming days. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me by phone or email at any time.

Best Regards,

Me!

I'm gonna do it!

11. Oh dear- I may be the wrong guy to ask for cover letter advice,
seeing as I am trying to brainstorm on one now. :banghead:

I'd definitely go for the job if I were you!

6. I worked at the Y for about 4 or 5 years as a camp counselor.
I really liked it. It was the best job for me at that time.

7. Well, I heard it's fun to stay at the YMCA
And it's a good place for a young man who's feeling down. Some people in the Village told me. :silly:

If it makes you feel any better, there were a number of Catholic priests who warned their parishoners to stay away from the Y because it was a protestant organization.

I say go for it! Good luck!!!
