I'm trying buy software online and I get this message. |
|
"We do not accept email accounts from free email services such as hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc"
Its the only e-mail account I have. Do I have to find an e-mail servive that I have to pay for to get this software? Why is this done?

1. Because free accounts offer anonymity that ISP or pay accounts don't. |

Ok. Where do I find a pay e-mail account, that will cost me money, just to download a program that I need to convert video to an iPod format. Thats all I want to do! This is so damn frustrating!

2. find a no-name web-based email account |
|
the chicago suntimes used to have at least 5 or 6 @whatever.com emails you could use.
i used these to subvert a lot of shit like that.
i think @gmail.com is still new enough to not get caught either.

Check with your ISP-- you may have an email account as part of your internet access.

6. You might just want to look around for an 800# and call them. |
|
I did that often because I didn't trust the internet(s) for a long time. Not as convenient, but you'll get your software ordered just about as quickly.

10. It's done to keep out spammers and shitkickers and hackers. |
|
Sorry about that, but they want to see some legitimacy. It's just good business. although YOU may be an upstanding citizen, many prople who "live on" throwaway accounts are not.
I sympathise with it causing you a problem, but they really have to have that rule.
Don't you get a "legitimate" email address as part of signing up with yout ISP?

shit i've had hotmail accounts for more than 10 years.
don't web-based accounts use a server the same way a "legitimate" email address does?

15. Well, OK, there it is! If you were selling software and taking a credit |
|
card for payment, would you feel safe in selling to someone who has the electronic version of "no certain address?"
These people are in business to get paid for their products, you know. I don't blame them for that policy. Not at all.

if the zip you provide doesn't match what's on file with your account, it'll deny the transaction.

17. OK I'm an idiot! I cant find any other e-mail address on my PC. |
|
All I want to do is to be able to load videos , that I download, to my fucking iPod! I'm just finding out now that you cant just do that. The files have to be converted and you need to buy software for that. That asshole at Best Buy lied to me when he told me that I could load any video that I download, right on to the iPod. Fuck it! I'm packing this POS up and returning it.

20. Um, maveric? You need to take a basic course about how the Internet |
|
works. I think you'd come out of that course much heppier and much wiser.
Thee are a couple of items of knowledge that you're missing here about how the Internet works, and you'd be well advised (and happier afterward) if you went to a class or two.

23. I can't help you with that. Others here may be able to. |
|
But the first thing to look for is who's getting from $9.95 to $42.95 of your money every month. THAT company is your ISP. That's who connects the computer on your dessk with DU and the rest of the Internet.
Hey, anyone else here who can help Maveric out? I HAVE to go to bed. And now.

18. But peopleare less likely to disappear from "legitimate" email |
|
accounts, then thay are to dump a "throwaway" account and dissipear.
You know it, I know, it, and the software vendors know it.
And since you know it, may be you shouldn't be bitching about the software vendors, since you understand their position.

|
YOu may already have one with them and not know it because you don't really use it. It would be worth it to check it out as it would be a premium email address. Most of the time the people you pay your internet bill to provide an email address.

I thank you all very much for your patience with my ignorance. All I want to do is load video to my iPod. The salesman told me that all you have to do is download and send to iPod. Its not that easy. All files have to be converted and the software costs money to do so.
