If a nice sentiment is posted under the wrong subject, is it wasted?
Does the subject line of a thread here have to capture the entire gist of the message? just curious.

Almost 3 years on here and still learning what you folks will read and respond to.

I'm referring to this;

1. Hey, that's sweet.
For what it's worth, I can relate, in terms of being mystified, and yet strangely fascinated, by what captures the lounge's collective attention.

Bottom line, there's NO "Right way" or "Wrong way" to do it. People in the lounge are into silly, irreverent fun, pure and simple.

Welcome back from vacation. Glad you had fun. Thanks for the nice wishes and Happy New Year to you, as well! :hi:

2. one never knows what is being read
response or not. To some extent, your low post count is a handicap. If, for example, you go over to the picture thread and make some nice comments, then people will feel like they know you and are more likely to respond to you, or you post in a state forum, or a topic forum, etc. People will notice you when they check their "my posts". Then if you have said something funny, or nice, or eloquent, then you might start an exchange if they respond to your response. The more you do that, the more people will feel like they know you, and like you.
Otherwise they see the thread and think "who is this person?" and if it is not somebody they know, they are less likely to read the thread unless the title makes them curious.

Of course, with me, having made so many sarcastic and argumentive and long-winded posts I am known, but generally not liked.

Also, if your own thread is not getting responded to, try a kick after a few hours and a new group of DUers will see it. It does not work for me, I still end up with threads that die with nothing but self-kicks and often go through long, seemingly endless wastelands when none of my posts gets responded to, but sometimes that is better than the alternative, which is often a disparaging response.

11. That's right
And the "Stay gold" concept comes from Ponyboy's love of Robert Frost's Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
