Cleric Says Nudity During Sex Annuls A Marriage
<snip>

AN Egyptian cleric's controversial fatwa claiming that nudity during sexual intercourse invalidates a marriage has uncovered a rift among Islamic scholars.

According to the religious edict issued by Rashad Hassan Khalil, a former dean of Al-Azhar University's faculty of Sharia (or Islamic law), "being completely naked during the act of coitus annuls the marriage".

The religious decree sparked a hot debate on the private satellite network Dream's popular religious talk show and on the front page of Al-Masri Al-Yom, Egypt's leading independent daily newspaper.

Suad Saleh, who heads the women's department of Al-Azhar's Islamic studies faculty, pleaded for "anything that can bring spouses closer to each other" and rejected the claim that nudity during intercourse could invalidate a union.

During the live televised debate, Islamic scholar Abdel Muti dismissed the fatwa: "Nothing is prohibited during marital sex, except of course sodomy."

11. Just wait: If the Repubs keep winning, our presidential debates will sound
like that.

Pat Robertson (moderate candidate): The Lord owns the woman's body, not the husband, and therefore the husband cannot command her to remove all of her clothing.

James Dobson (Liberal candidate): The Lord will allow her to discreetely wear only stockings and a bra, if the husband prefers it that way.

Fred Phelps (conservative candidate, frontrunner): Neither the husband or the wife have a say in the matter. Both must wear sheets covering them from head to toe, and the holes in the sheets must be no greater than one quarter inch larger than the size of the husband's erection. Further, the lights must be out, and both partners must wear a blindfold. I propose a cabinet level department to ensure that all coitus in this nation is stricty monitored, to ensure that no one is naked, and that no one smiles or sighs during the act. (Applause). We are at war with sex, gentleman (no women allowed in debate hall), and we will accept nothing less than total victory! (Much applause).

Moderator: Follow up question. Do these rules apply to mistresses as well?

Fred Phelps: Hell no! God created mistresses for fun, wives for bearing children! (Other candidates nod vigorously).

15. That tale is increasingly frightening. I think it's happening.
In one of the more interesting movie events, Robert Duvall played the historical Dick Cheney before the history in question occurred.

14. Just like the ancient Romans.
Women of "quality" never completely disrobed when making the beast with two backs. The breasts were covered.

Kind of takes away from our cliche of Roman orgies, though I doubt if such strictures applied to prostitutes, foreigners, etc.

The more things change...............
