What really cute, really sweet things do your pets do to get affection?
Moosey plays too rough and needs to have his claws trimmed, but other than that, he is a sweet little lover boy. Last night as Mrs. V. slept, I laid (?) in bed and read. Moose wanted some lovin' but I only had one hand free, and it was the wrong hand. He wanted the one I held the book with. But he compromised; to get to my right hand, he crawled up on my chest. He purred like an engine -- I swear if we could harness the cats' purring, we could power the house -- and flipped his head over. His nose was almost touching my chin. I had to laugh and put down the book and give him his lovin'. What a sweety pie!

1. Tate (the Tater Tot) has a special "Play with me NOW" toy
It's pink sisal ball with a fuzzy green "tail." He brings his toy, drops it in your lap (or on the keyboard), and gives a hearty "chirp." This means, "You are hereby ordered to play with me now."

3. Jessie does the "Puppy stretch". She will put her butt up in the air and
stretch back on her front paws and then lean forward and stretch her back ones and then do a little all over shake, wag her tail, and attempt to flip her "toy of the moment" up into your lap, on the table, or wherever you happen to be. :hi: Merlin will just sit on you until you pet him, or if I walk by with my hands at my sides and he is in the chair with MrG...he will try to stretch his head out to catch a walkby pat.

43. PM me and I'll give you the breeder's name. She does a wonderful
job with breeding for the standards and for temperment. I have never been around a dog as laid back, smart and sweet as Jessie. She doesn't breed very often, but her litters are awesome and she might be able to hook you up with another responsible breeder in your area. :) Until then, Jessie will consider herself part yours...you are always so nice to her. :hi:

7. Satchmo just did his cute thing.
He climbs up beside me and slaps me on the face with his paw. Then he goes and throws things off the coffee table. He's a very naughty boy. But if I pick him up, he'll start to purr and then flip himself upside down so I can rub his tummy. Then he kneads the air with his paws and starts purring so hard he squeaks.

Your Moosey is beautiful!

10. Simba meows his head off at Mr. DTBK when he gets home from work
He's saying, "Please sit down NOW so I can cuddle up on your lap!" Morrissey loves it when we're fresh out of the shower; he rolls around in ecstasy and butts his head into our hands, biting and licking our hands frantically. Monty is more sedate and just lies on our feet and kneads his paws while purring his head off.

22. Yeah -- he's a pretty sweet bunny!
I never thought seriously about having a bunny, but this one showed up in our yard this summer (probably a dumped bunny -- there are so many and no one responded to ads, signs, etc.). My daughter named him "Munchy" but he also goes by "Bun" or "Bun Bun." I'm used to kitties, so the bunny blank stare kinda threw me at first, but when he started showing real signs of friendliness he won my heart.

The cats are Savvy (Savannah) who is my princess 13-year-old white/tabby female, Otis, an 8-year-old brown tabby male, and Tommy, a 2-year-old grey tabby. They're all rescues.

One of these days I'll learn how to post photos on DU! (I just need to sit down and overcome my technophobia.)

If you're standing, he'll come over and lean on you. If you're sitting, he'll sidle up and park his back end on your lap. If you're seated on the floor, you're in trouble. You may have 137 pounds of dog sitting on you.

I love it, though. It's one of the things I love about the breed, actually.

39. Well, dogs are omnivores like we are, so
they reap the same benefits of a veg diet. The base kibble is Nature's Recipe Vegetarian, a kibble made for breeds/dogs with sensitive skin. It's also owned by Heinz, so it's a good blue company (even the dogs are libruls). It's no more expensive than IAMS or Nutro.
http://www.naturesrecipe.com/DogProductDisplay.aspx?p=Dogs/Skin_dryVegetarian

The reasons are twofold. One, as stated, it's a healthier diet. Especially considering that the meat in most commercial dog foods is the rendered remains of only those animal parts that humans can't consume. Bones, blood, expired meat, roadkill, euthanized shelter animals (I could go on, but won't) all find their way into rendering plants. It's not like feeding them ground chuck, rather, feeding them the slaughterhouse floor scrapings. No chance that's going into my animals.

Secondly, all of our animals are rescues (both the kept ones and the ones we put back together and adopt out). They've all come from some form of cruelty. My personal belief is that there is far too much cruelty in the system that turns animals into food. I can't end cruelty with one by supporting it with another. Cruelty shouldn't beget cruelty.

I'm certainly not suggesting that folks that do feed meat-based food to their animals are fostering cruelty. That's my mindset, and one could suggest that these ingredients are by-products. As I said, the puppies that come in (up to 8 months or so) get puppy food (Nutro, usually), as there haven't been enough studies to support a veg diet in a very young dog. I can't potentially compromise their health. Plus, we have a lot of stray cats, and, as natural carnivores, they get meat based food (though there is a veg alternative, I'm unsure of mass, long term success).

a 2 year old Lab mix who came to live with us in July, has got a drop dead cute move. If you're laying on the bed or sofa she'll jump up and then fall over on your chest or stomach, roll on to her back, so positioned that she can turn her head and lick your face.

17. Amber does two things, depending on whether she wants sweet or rough
affection.

If she wants sweet, she crawls up on my chest and snuggles her head forcefully against my beard, and starts purring. Usually she starts licking the beard, too.

If she wants rough, she pounces on the nearest hand, grabs it with all front claws, and begins gnawing and kicking my arm with her rear claws. Yeah, it hurts, a lot, but it's still sweet. Sometimes she bites too hard, and then starts licking the spot she bit, either to apologize, or to satisfy her craving for blood--not sure which.

Behave differently towards me and my daughter. Widget will reach for my hand and lick it. If I move it away, he reaches again. If I pick him up, he licks my face and nose. He headbutts with my daughter.

Gracie, who came to us around a year old, is a little less physical. She sits at my feet and squeaks (she can't meow) and holds her right paw in the air. Then she does the dance around my legs and the furniture, rubbing and purring. I can't hold her or confine her but at night, she lays down against my stomach or legs and doesn't move all night. I call her my magnet.

They're so much fun and such a joy to me.

Here's a photo of my sheltie, back when he was a just another pretty face in the show ring. I became his retirement home when he was about 7.

On edit, he died two years ago from a mass in his lungs. His cause of death was heart failure, but I know it was due to the cancer.

I miss him terribly!

36. His name was Adam
and there's a reason. He was the first puppy from the first litter at a brand new kennel. His registered name is In the Beginning. So if he had been a she, she'd have been Eve.

He was sweet, gentle, goofy and stayed close always. He loved a game my daughter had called Grabbin Grasshoppers. The grasshoppers were attached with suction cups to the game board. When they popped up, you had to grab them with a net. Adam would grab them and make one lap around the board. Sometimes he'd get so anxious, he'd just pull one off before it jumped.

He loved the cold wind and misty rain kind of days. Stood out in the front yard and just breathed in the cold, damp air. It was heaven for him.

Thanks for letting me wander down memory lane with him. He was special. So very special.

Whether it means PET ME or PLAY WITH ME or FEED ME is something we have to decipher. she's hilarious when she tries to communicate what she wants, she'll stare at us and give a yelp when we don't get it right. I need to post new pics soon of her playing.

53. My Fannie cat sits next to me
and pokes me gently on the arm with her paw. This means "pet me pet me pet me!"

If I am doing something with that hand, but the other hand is free, I will raise the other hand and snap my fingers and she will actually MOVE to come over to the other hand and get petted. She's very clever. She comes when she's called, too -- only cat I've ever had that does that. Of course, she still only does this about 75% of the time, but since my other cats did it about 10% of the time, it's still a lot. :)

55. Stoops likes to lick the back of my head.
I don't understand it exactly, but I think it's her way of showing affection.

56. My older dog
will sit back and bash me with both paws while crying and whining like mad.

The baby (not really a baby anymore) will just stare at me endlessly until I feel her eyes boring holes into my head.

57. Max likes to hug

Max has to hug when I get out of the shower. Open the shower curtain, and he's on the sink waiting for his hugs. He likes to rub the back of his head with mine. Constantly talks while he's hugging.
