Six-Pack Abs are STUPID.
I'll preface this by saying that I'm dieting, aiming to get my body fat down to 10~12% if I can. I think it's nice to be trim but I don't think people with a few extra lbs are unattractive (Queen Latifah and Jack Black both look fine, IMO.)

But one thing I really hate about the new body aesthetic is this notion that everybody should be all cut up and have 6-pack abs.

A 6-pack is revolting on a woman, first of all. Any other guys out there agree with me? CURVES are sexy, not ANGLES.

And even on a man, hey, it's great on an olympic athlete or a bodybuilder, but why on earth should men be striving this totally unrealistic level of leanness on a regular basis? What's wrong with just keeping reasonably fit and trim, with the spare tire kept to a minimum.

It's normal and healthy for men and women to have a little tummy. In fact on women, a little tummy is sexy.

So there.

5. Yes, I'm protecting mine with a nice layer of fat as well
I worked too hard for those 6-pack abs to put them up front where they're vulnerable.

I don't have six-pack abs, but I've never actually tried to have them. I'm just skinny in general.

I don't think they're all that bad on SOME women. I think an athletic look is appealing sometimes. But I do have to agree that, in general, a little bit of tummy is better.

4. I agree; I think a little tummy is sexy on a woman, too.
Personal preference of course, but I prefer a smooth belly, even with a bump, to a very harsh, carved-looking one.

6. It's a six-pack world, and here I am with a keg
I myself find a little belly flab on a woman extremely sexy. If there's one thing I find unattractive, it's a body that is "overdefined". Some curves are very very nice indeed!

7. People come in all shapes and sizes...
if someone is naturally ripped, or prefers to do the work required to maintain that look, more power to them.

However I completely agree that it's horrible that this has somehow become the 'standard'.

8. People should work to have the bodies they want
Not the body they think will please a mate or what the media tells them is attractive, but how they like themselves.

If they're happy in thier own skin, that's great. If you don't like it, fuck off.

10. I'll Admit That I Always Think "Narcissism" When I See It
Ok, if it's a professional athlete who makes a gazillion dollars by being in great shape, that's different. But, to be that focused on something that has no obvious physical benefit, seems unnecessary and narcissistic. But, that's just me. And, i'm pretty thin.

But, when i was an amateur boxer, (a million years ago), i did 1,000 situps a day. And i had a solid firm stomach, but i didn't have a six pack. The amount of work is so high that i just don't get it.

The 'cut' look is due to diet more than exercise.

15. That Makes Sense
Dewatering the interstitial tissues and stuff. I know a guy that used to bodybuild. He would quit drinking any liquids about 2 days before a meet. So, that's probably a big factor.

Not only is it unrealistic, it's practically impossible for most people to achieve.

Speaking as a curvy woman, who happens to LOVE her curves, I concur with you, Yollam.

19. Must say I appreciate 6-pack abs on 20-yo lifeguards
Not from situps, but from hundreds of laps they have to do for their college swim teams during the winter.

And that little cut down by the hip. That's nice too.

But I agree that in men over 30 who aren't paid to hit or kick or carry balls of any sort, they're not realistic.

Women, on the other hand, look AMAZING with tummies ---> be sure to spread the word on that one....

A bit of a belly is nice on a woman. I just can't dig on hard bodied women, it's not my thing. I find too thin or too hard is just not very appealing feel wise.

24. I don't have a 6-pack either...
but I do have defined, toned abs. That comes from core strengthening that should be a part of any exercise program. I work out 6 days a week - but I don't do crunches!

For me to have a 6-pack, I'd have to restrict my calories too far to be healthy. However, some women are naturally on the very lean, muscular side, and they might have a 6-pack just from normal healthy exercise (and not from consciously trying to get one).

36. Tight tummy on is always nice. The style of womans pants stinks
right now. I'm not crazy about a six pack but just tight is nice. If she is about 30-35 with kids AND a pretty tight tummy.. well all I can say is thats impressive. As I get close to 30 those are the women I find the most attractive, now I'm not going to lie and say I won't notice a 20 year old but they haven't been tested by age or life yet.

The one thing I hate right now is the style of womans pants and this hurts women of all ages and sizes. The damn cut it just seems like the cut of pants makes every woman have a love handle showing. We need a cultural shift away from this horrible hip hugger pants.

40. Seconded on the hip higger pants.
Anyone less than perfect looks like crap in them. And even on "perfect" bodies, they are not my favorite fashion. I'm sick of seeing women's lower back tattoos and the tops of their panties/thongs. I guess it's just a product of when I was brought up, but those are not a woman's sexiest features to me, and tats just still seem ugly to me, on either sex. I know I'm behind the times, but to me they still seem like something that belongs on pirates, sailors and biker gang types. I also hate it when adults in public use profanity in front of my kids as though they weren't there. How rude!

Nichelle Nichols was pretty hawt back when she was playing Lt. Uhura. Watch "Mirror, Mirror" and see how they have her dressed on the ISS Enterprise in the parallel universe. I didn't think women were that buff in the 1960's.
