The dance studio owner next door has 30 seconds to live |
|
aaaaaRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
(Be advised that there will be unfriendly content towards children in this post...)
I own a store. My store is quiet. My customers are primarily adults, so they typically don't throw themselves on the floor and scream till they black out. I'm trying to do bookwork. I'm listening to classical music at a very low volume. Let's just say it would be nice if I could, perhaps, concentrate on said bookwork.
There is a dance studio down the hall from me. I have gone out of my way to be a nice and patient neighbor to them, but those days are over as of 90 minutes ago. Evidently, it's Scream Like A Banshee Day at the dance studio. The sheer lung power of fifteen unsupervised 2-5 year olds has left me somewhat at a loss.
What would you do? (I don't know how to make a poll, so we'll have to do this the low-tech way.)
a) Go to the liquor store two doors down. Drink heavily till it really doesn't matter anymore. b) Go into the dance studio. Tell the little darlings that I'm going to tell them all where babies come from and the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny if they keep up the screaming. c) Call the landlord. Tell him his belated holiday gift will be a CD recording of the dance studio children screaming. d) Start looking to relocate business to quieter building. Take out huge SBA loan.
Thank you in advance for your advice, Julie

1. Call your local police headquarters |
|
and ask them what kind of rules or city ordinance there is for noise. Different zones should have some sort of noise cap on them. Then you might want to file a petition for the studio to either install noise dampeners around the studio, and have all your neighbors in the building who are businesses to sign the petition.
If this all fails, start looking for quieter building. There might be some sort of dampener you can get for your own shop as well, like a white noise machine that operates in the background. Either that, or get some techno music or rap and blare it throughout your place when the studio is quiet.

Well, no doubt I'd do "A" before deciding which of the other options I should take next. Heck, I'd do "A" with you out of solidarity, even if I was not the victim of the noise fairies!
;)
Poor thing. I do think you have to have some recourse here. And you know I'm the mommy of a little girl in that age range that loves nothing more than to make noise. A whole hell of a lot of noise.
Grrrrrr.......

It's amazing that one small girl can make that much noise, isn't it? I'm continually stunned at the sheer lung power. I hope you'll give her a big hug and a kiss from me, though!
Julie they're cute when they're asleep, aren't they?
