Thank God we all survived the accident tonight!
I had to cut across traffic and I thought there was a gap to cross over.
A lot people cross over there to get to the shopping center. But this guy came around
that I did not see and hit me. His car has very little damage, but my whole passenger side is damaged and I can't open the doors, BUT THANK GOD, that no one got hurt! I was alone so no one, thank God, got it. We both have insurance so I got to work it out tomorrow.

Thanks for all the positive energy and prayers, DU!

68. She made a very good point.
I was very sore, couldn't turn my head for several days, must have had "whiplash." I got checked out at the ER, as was my friend/passenger, who ended up under the dashboard. My head cracked my windshield, on the passenger side. But neither of us had obvious injuries. I never considered the long-term physical effects. This was brought up by my chiropractor, who I started seeing, years later. So don't neglect the physical, my friend, or the emotional. Please let us know how you are.

My son about 10 months ago, me, jones and beverly, my hubby and elliot.

My son was conceived after I lost a baby in a car accident. I was in the passenger seat. My seat was compressed to the width of 2 business cards.

Car accidents are scary.

5. So glad you are OK!
Having been in an accident last month with a deer, I have a heightened awareness of just how terrifying it is. I wasn't hurt either, but I still recall vividly how sudden and completely unexpected it was.

It's really alarming how everything could have changed in the blink of an eye, isn't it?

I'm so, so relieved to hear you are OK.

Wishing you all the best (and a good insurance company)

11. I've heard State Farm is very good!
As long as you can get in and out of a good body shop in a decent amount of time it shouldn't be bad at all.

The good news (besides the fact that you weren't injured) is that the other driver was insured.

I wonder if his insurance will pay for a rental for you to drive in the mean time...

27. Hi, El!
So glad to know that you are o.k.

Take the advice - get checked out if there is any pain.

When I was in an accident in a county car (17-year-old sped through a red light), they made me go to the county doctor. I said, "I feel fine." Dr. said, "I know. Let me tell you what you are going to feel in an hour when the adrenaline wears off, and then in five hours ..." He told me how to lie down, in an easy-chair/recliner to minimize the whiplash effect. It worked.

Wow. It is such a stressful, anxiety-provoking thin.

The only thing that helps me is relaxing and thanking God I'm still around. Things upset you less after you get over the accident - I think you feel lucky just to be around.

When I had my accidents!

The doc said I would hurt (be bruised) where the seatbelt stopped me from going through a window.

Sure enough, that's where I was bruised.

And, like I said, DOC said be careful with your neck and upper back.

It's in the 20s, sunny, a little snow on the ground. One of our volcanoes not too far from here erupted a couple of times this morning, but it didn't produce much ash and it blew off in the other direction so no problems here yet. Last time it went off in 1986 it was a MESS. So how are things where you are -- aside from the accident?

56. Oh, dear God, my friend! What a terrible experience for you!
And you were so happy about getting your license! But I have to tell you that I had a similar experience, and I hadn't had my license for much longer than you have. A man ran a red light and took the front right off of my car! It made me afraid to drive for a long time, and I had a passenger (my friend, from work; we were getting lunch). I was actually more worried about her than I was about myself, and about my beloved car, which I moved heaven and earth to get fixed! I am just grateful that you weren't hurt. Please consult a lawyer, my friend. If you weren't at fault, this can't count against you, as it didn't for me. And the other insurance company should pay for your car repairs, as well. But I am still so sorry! My best positive energy, and, yes, my prayers, as well, will be with you. Please let us know how you are and how this turns out. You can get valuable advice from those of us who have experienced this kind of trauma. Keep us posted and please let me know how you are.

I don't think this counts against me. Clearly I got almost all the damage, HE HIT me. But thank God

Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 02:17 AM by Rhiannon12866
But that was totally my fault. I have been living on the edge for the past few months. My accident was early on in my driving career, which is the reason I'm concerned about you. I have been a tentative driver ever since then. Before that, I was fearless. Not crazy, either, but just unafraid. And my friend, though she was sore for a long while, as I was, has turned into the braver driver. I asked her once why the accident didn't scare her, as it did me, and she said that she didn't have her license yet, and she wasn't in control, so it didn't affect her, as it did me. We were also both well into our twenties when we became licensed drivers.

And this accident definitely shouldn't count against you. Did the police issue a report? I need to read your entire thread, but I reacted immediately when I read your post... When I was hit, my Dad found me a lawyer, and he had me take it to small claims court. I had two witnesses, from my accident, the guy behind me, who saw the entire thing, and my friend and passenger. But I was my own best witness. And the guy who fixed my car was wonderful, overalls and all, LOL! The other guy's insurance company paid for the most of my car repairs, which were pretty horrific, but I wasn't ready to give up on my first car, which was a classic. The thing that my lawyer told me, which I'll always remember, was that, whenever there is an accident, everyone loses. But you owe it to your driving record, your car and your finances, to come out on top with this.

And you know my dog! That's my little guy, Meneken. My DU friend, whom you know, animated him for me, LOL! He's very talented, and also your friend on DU. I'm so glad to hear from you, but so sorry that it has to be under such circumstances. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are.

Rhiannon just told me about your accident (otherwise I might not have seen it - I don't get to the lounge much, anymore). Your car can be fixed or replaced. You, however, are irreplaceable. It sounds like you've had the best possible outcome from such a scary incident.

I was in a pretty bad car accident a little over two years ago. I, a habitual leadfoot, ran my Porsche into a tree after a high-speed run on a deserted back road:

Before:

After:

It's only by sheer luck that I'm here today, but not without consequence. I massacred my leg:

Right after (this past) Christmas, I went into the hospital and had all of that metal removed (still recovering from the surgery & still on hydrocodone, which explains this rambling post ;)). Anyhow, I guess what I'm trying to say is that cars come and go, but you're irreplaceable and, despite this scary incident, the best possible outcome is that you're okay! You should feel empowered - you dodged a bullet!

Be careful, my friend!:hi:

66. Oh, my! That's terrible! Sorry about that.
I have been in a number of accidents where one car or another was totaled (only two of which where I was the driver; both of those when I was young, ~ 24 years ago), so I know what it is like. Glad everyone is ok! That is what really matters.
