With all these pregnancy chats... and since i'm fertile as fertile could |
|
be. I got a question for those who guys here who have had a vasectomy or anyone that knows someone with one.
Does it ever rejoin?? Hubby got it done 4 months ago - tied and cut. I can get pregnant just thinking about it - my daughter was conceived only doin it 1 time in September. My other two took about 2-3 cycles.
His check came back good - nothing found but I'm still paranoid - I cant take bc because it 1. gives me migranes and 2. i cant tolerate more estrogen.
No med advice - asking if anyone has known/have had it happen to them :)

1. My cousin had a vasectomy, |
|
his wife was pregnant a year later. Popular opinion is that the child is indeed his.
I think (or at least hope) that such occurrences are rare.
As an aside, when a vasectomy is performed, the segments of vas are sent to pathology, we actually make slides to make sure the doctor took out vas and not some random string of tissue.

When the doc got in, he said my husband had rather short tubes, so to make SURE they didn't rejoin, he cut, clamped, AND cauterized the ends. So far so good. My third baby was conceived much the same as you describe. I KNEW when I got pregnant, because we had an exhausting four month old, and as a result, there was only one day that month that it could've happened!

5. It's rare but I've heard a whitecoat joke that went a little something |
|
like this (cha ching). "Epidemiologists say that just under 1% of vasectemies don't take. You know what I say, one percent of pregnant wives whose husbands have had vasectomies are wonderful storytellers."
I'd say you shouldn't really worry.

I have friends that have a vas baby. Their children were teens before the vas regrew and suddenly they had an infant.
But that was quite a few years ago (they are quite a bit older than we are). Perhaps the procedure has changed a bit?
You might consider having your dh talk to his primary care guy and requesting another check to see if he is still shooting blanks.
Mostly, relax and enjoy not having to use birth control. It's a wonderful thing.

20. Oh no... I cant imagine with kids nearly grown becoming pregnant again |
|
This is gross - one day I took a 'sample' and looked under my microscope  I didnt see anything at 200x and I would imagine that I would've saw something since I can see bacteria and the like there.
His 2 mo showed clear so I'm a little more relaxed in that aspect. It is great not worrying about birth control!!! Spontaneous is better than having to stop in the middle and ya know the rest of it :)

7. Why don't you get an IUD? They're GREAT. I've had mine for 2 years with |
|
absolutely NO side effects. It's the safest, least invasive, non-bothersome birth control ever invented.
It doesn't cause cancer, you can't feel it. It works, it's safe, it's effective, it's cheap. Between that and your husband's surgery, you'd be foolproof!

8. Tubal Ligation is 100000% Better than IUD |
|
A tubal ligation doesn't cause cramping like an IUD does; doesn't contain hormones like an IUD does; doesn't need to removed like an IUD does and is permanent, unlike an IUD! Also, no risk of infection with a tubal ligation - IUDs do carry that risk.
I had my tubal ligation done over four years ago. Best thing I've ever, ever done.

9. TL is an excellent way to go, however, unless it's done following |
|
a c-section, it's serious surgery.
My doc talked me out of it and recommended the IUD which took all of 10 minutes and yep, it cramped and then, *poof*. Done. And if I were to be insane enough to want to have kids again (oh HELL NO) then I could easily reverse it within one single appointment.
They're both great options depending on what scenario you're in, that's for sure. I wish I'd had a tubal done when I had my c-section back in '93. It would have made good sense.

10. Not "Serious Surgery" At All |
|
I'm nulliparous (no childbirth of any kind, ever) and I had mine done through a tiny little incision in my belly betton. Can't even see the scar now, and I'm super ultra mega pale. Tubal ligation is a minor, out-patient surgery even for high-risk patients like me (I have multiple breathing problems, kidney disease, etc).

12. The way the doc explained it, with the inverting the table, inflation of |
|
the abdomen, local anesthetic, etc., it all sounded like JUST TOO MUCH WORK!
But it remains a very effective form of birth control, that's for sure!

13. Ah. I Had a Doctor Who Respected My Wishes and Intelligence |
|
I know *exactly* what is involved with a tubal ligation (mine was done by fulgration - burning the tubes completely, not just tying or clipping) and my doctor did not try to talk my into some less effective, reversible method. She understood that when I said that I'm nulliparous and intend to stay that way, I meant it! I'm lucky - too many doctors assume that a woman without children will "change her mind," no matter how adamant she is that she won't. Never hear about a doctor talking a woman out of getting pregnant or giving birth, though ...

My doc only delivers at a catholic hospital that doesnt allow him to do them so I would've had to go to another hospital and another doc who I dont know to get it done. After 3 I dont want another one either :)

since it was just done 'in office'. I dont like anesthesia unless absolutely necessary. I heard that tubal pregancies are more common when people get a tubal?

32. Not When Done By Fulgration |
|
Since there's no tube left; there's a very, very small risk with other methods, but it's less than that in women who have not been sterilized.
Tubal ligations can be done under a local anesthesia, as can a new method, called Essure, in which small obstructors are placed into the fallopian tubes. Vasectomies are a terrific option, too - but in a choice between IUD and tubal ligation, tubal ligation is the superior method for the woman who doesn't want children/any more children, especially for women who have trouble with hormonal BC methods and/or have painful periods.

with the cervical lasering. I already mentioned that to the doc after my son was born. I dont remember the exact reason but he said but it had to do with the abnormal paps before :/

|
...counts afterwards, just to check. I did it a couple of times, and eventually, there was no sperm count. I don't really think there was one after my first count, but I just played it safe. After a couple of counts, I'm sure he'll be O.K.

34. I had one six years ago |
|
we continued to use barrier methods during the peak cycle times for the next 2 years. I had a recount about 2 years after the procedure, and my count was still zero, so we stopped using the barrier methods after that.
A few months after that my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer, after her passing, I haven't really needed to worry about my count. I suspect, that if after 2 years it was zero, it still is.

His were cut, tied and cauterized. If they grow back there's going to be some Zoroastrian holy men coming to ask me about that supernova in the eastern sky.
It is very, very, very rare for the vas to reconnect after a cauterization. If they do, you've got a great malpractice suit.

36. My hubby had a vasectomy over 8 yrs ago. |
|
After two kids and deciding we didn't want to go for a third, since we'd gotten our boy and girl, he had it done many years ago. I must say, it has been a HUGE benefit for our sex life...NOT having to worry about getting pregnant can be a real aphrodisiac...plus, we can be more spontaneous.
My hubby still tested positive for active sperm after his initial follow up appt. and had to wait a few more weeks to get the all clear. He was all proud about that, of course. :eyes:
I've certainly heard stories of them not working, but I'd say they're pretty rare. I'd say, after 4 long mos, you don't really have a reason to be paranoid. You should be fine, girl!
So go have some fun!! heheh.

We both wish we could go back and have a child together but this is the way things go... So i guess i'll just help raise her two girls..:)

|
and she used to tell coworkers whose husbands had recently had one to be careful for about a year. After that there should be almost nothing to worry about again. How about a diapragm, condoms or gels instead? I know that it takes a few seconds of your time but it's better to be safe than sorry in the long run.
