has anyone seen "grizzly man"
what did you think?

i just finished it & i'm still digesting the whole thing

all in all, i thought it was a good compilation of treadwell's work, though some parts (that werner herzog filmed) seemed staged

herzog's commentary was occasionally intrusive in moments that could have been more or less self explanatory

i'm still kinda mulling treadwell over

1. The worst Herzog film I've seen, but for me a lot of that had

to do with his subject, whom I found to be uncharismatic, unsympathetic, and extremely irritating. Obviously, I won't have to worry about being irritated by him any more, unless more footage from the dead man's video archives is broadly published.

For Herzog films, I'll take Stroszek, Fitzcarraldo, My Best Fiend and others over Grizzly Man.

And as for characters of cinema, I favor the jockey-brief and gas-mask clad cough-syrup swilling Herzog of Harmony Korine's Julien Donkey-Boy over Treadwell and his delusional, self-aggrandizing, and ultimately fatal, staged fictions.

Your mileage may vary.

2. that was the thing

i mean, treadwell seemed more or less self serving... so sympathy for him may be a bit varied

i felt there were things that herzog could have done to make his narrative less necessary

i'm just not certain that treadwell's concern for bears superseded his desire for stardom

by the same token, i appreciate his pursuit (whatever it may have been) without a foot on the brake

i can't claim to be completely versed in herzog's works, so i'm not currently capable of a comparative analysis... though a few of the moments he filmed here felt completely staged

i'm more or less thinking treadwell over

i still enjoyed the film... i liked the fox the best :D

Maybe the famous headphone scene, for one?

Okay, I see what you're saying on the count of Herzog's failings, and I agree. A better (or a real) documentarian would have removed himself entirely and just let the story tell itself. God knows audiences don't need directors to bloviate and pontificate for them - audiences can bloviate and pontificate well enough all by themselves.

"could it have been..."

"we cannot know..."

"de bayuhs..."

and the mortitian... and when his friend gets his watch i was all like - this is NOT real :eyes:

anyway, i would still recommend it as an interesting character analysis

5. Yes, yes.
Nice examples on the narration, and unreal scenes.

One should probably see it, you're right, even if one stands a good chance of hating it and the people in it.

9. A very large idiot.
And unfortunately he took someone else with him in his idiocy, and several bears as well.
