4. I think the B-52s are much greater artists than people realize. |
|
Extremely clever, entertaining music, using the dregs of popular culture to create their own original art.

5. REM has been around longer... But |
|
the B-52s have more consistently interesting albums.
Besides, REM started selling out by 1991 or so. There's a whacking huge content difference between albums "Document #5" and "Out of Time"; "Document #5" being much better.
I love 'em both though.

7. I live in Athens. I for voted r.e.m. but I like all of the bands. |
|
Mr. CB has been part of the music scene since the 1970s. He actually opened for r.e.m. and knows all of the guys. Their bands used to play at the same, now long gone club, Tyrones, OC, a part of Athens, GA music history. Mr. CB was in One Eye Open, Subject to Change, Bang and Playground among others.
Limbo District was super avante garde and had to be experienced live! I remeber seeing r.e.m. play for free and seeing Wp when they were just local guys (they still are.) In 1982, the English Beat opened for r.e.m. a t a free live concert at Legion Field. AWESOME!
I remember going out to the old 40 Watt Club (the little tiny one on Clayton Street) and hearing all of my favorite bands for $2 and $1 beer. We danced all night and went home late. :)
The Little Tigers were one of my favorite Athens bands EVER! (Bang was Little Tigers minus lead singer + Mr. CB as lead singer.)
There are so many bands here. Y'all come on down for Athfest this summer! It's an outdoor music festival with multiple stages and also many club venues.
I saw Pylon at the 40 Watt this past summer at the Athens Rewind reunion of all of us scensters, hipsters, townies, musicians writers and bohemians! It was a BLAST! I saw Oh OK too! (Linda Hopper and lynda Stipe). They rocked as always. Lynda and I used to work together. We danced all weekend. My friend Kay danced so wildly to Pylon that she broke her shoe and her purse strap!
My old friend, Gary, is the head roadie for WP.
All of these folks are great supporters of Athens, Democrats, historic preservation and the environment. They donate lots of time and money to Democratic politiicans and public radio and many charities.
Do y'all know about Time Toy? Two of our good friends are in this classic Athens band. Many of my friends were in the movie Athens, GA Inside Out. Check out their newly released CD Flyswatter/Icewater. Y'all will love it! (google online for Athens music sites)
Peace from Athens, GA! CB
