The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Thu 1/12/2006)
After Great Pain, A Formal Feeling Comes

After great pain, a formal feeling comes--
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Toombs--
The stiff Heart questions was it He, that bore,
And Yesterday, or Centuries before?

The Feet, mechanical, go round--
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought--
A Wooden way
Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone--

This is the Hour of Lead--
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing persons recollect the Snow--
First--Chill--then Stupor--then the letting go--

Emily Dickinson

1. Seems like a most
appropriate selection for your mood (my guess anyway).
Here's a little something - hope it cheers you up.

4. Echoing CaliforniaPeggy here...
...I love wading through Emily. Especially after a "storm."

Thank you. :hi:

5. This is one of my favorite poems, RL
It got me through a very painful breakup a number of years ago.

6. I needed it for a while today...
and I have had requests for Emily, so I went with it.
