1. I think Hopkins is fairly liberal. |
|
I don't go there; I go to the much cheaper and very dumbed down state school up the street ( :D ), but Hopkins is smack dab in the middle of very blue Baltimore.

I'm hoping someone will surprise me and say the same thing about Georgia Tech.

Is Georgia Tech where you want to go? I'd say don't let politics be too important when choosing a school -- within reason. Other aspects are more important. I can say Hopkins has a GREAT library. I hardly ever use my own library; always at Hopkins.

As long as you're a student in the University of Maryland system (which encompasses most of the colleges in Maryland) you can check out and return books at any other college in the system.

All the engineering and business school types, you know. If you're looking for a liberal school, Georgia Tech isn't it.
But it DOES have the advantage of being located in Atlanta, which is an island of blue in a sea of red. And depending on what your planned major is, it IS a highly-ranked school (in the top 10 for engineering and coputer science).

A few not on your list: UC Berkeley comes to mind, and the University of Michigan. But engineering schools tend to be pretty conservative on the whole. The best you can probably hope for is a school in a liberal area.

11. I don't know why they didn't think of Berkeley. |
|
I'm guessing that it's because he wants to specialize in something within engineering, that Berkeley didn't rate in the top tiers. As hard as that is to believe.

I went to a school that was only 2% minority and it was a very depressing experience for me socially. I don't want to subject him to the same kind of insular environment.
