Happy Birthday Jack London!
130 years young!

Shame we're all illiterate and can't read your works anymore...

1. I read his stuff when I was younger.
Lots of dogs, snow, and adventure. I would probably find it pretty boring today ...

4. You should try reading "The Iron Heel".
No adventuring across the frozen Alaskan wastes with a pack of trusty sled-dogs there; it's a story of the emergence of fascism thanks to unbridled corporate power (of course London doesn't call it 'fascism', as that word didn't exist when the book was written); it was one of George Orwell's favourite novels.

7. That's a pioneering work
Also "The People of the Abyss", and "The Road" (he was Kerouac before Kerouac was).

"Martin Eden" is bleakly autobiographical. You get a real sense of the restlessness and despair of his ambition.

9. I loved Martin Eden.
I should re-read it and the Iron Heel too.

6. One of my very favorites
I recommend for our fellow DUers: "People Of The Abyss". An epic essay highlighting his socialist philosophy.
