2. Brief *Spoiler*
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 11:23 AM by philosophie_en_rose
While discussing the Bible and the baby's name, Claire mentions to Ecko that Charlie is also apparently religious and carries a Virgin Mary Statue. Ecko is immediately suspicious.

Ecko makes Charlie take him to the plane with the heroin. Turns out that Ecko's brother was the pilot of the plane.

*Flashback to Nigeria* Ecko's brother was a priest. Ecko asked him to ordain him and his fellow mafia members, so that they could sneak past the military and fly the plane of drugs out of the country. Ecko's brother reluctantly agrees, but says that Ecko could never be a real priest. Ecko goes to the plane to go through with it, dressed as a priest. Ecko's brother rushes in and takes off in the plane. Ecko, dressed as a priest, is allowed to escape. The military thinks he's a real priest. Obviously, the brother crashes on Lost island and dies.

Ecko sees the "monster" which is a column of smoke containing images from Ecko's life. He stands there, but nothing happens to him when the smoke goes through him. Charlie asks if Ecko really is a priest. Ecko says yes. Ecko burns the plane, but leaves some drugs out for Charlie for some reason.

Claire kicks Charlie out of her area, for being a drug addict. Charlie hoards statues under a tree.

3. Did the smoke go through Ecko
or just hang in front of him? When the camera panned through the smoke we saw the images of Ecko's life and family, but I did not think it went through him.

I don't think it went through his body, but it surrounded it.

18. It has to be something released from the DHARMA Project
and what with Michael getting messages from Walt on the computer monitor....maybe Mike released the supernatural thing that is part of the DHARMA Project by using the computer for more than entering the number sequence.

11. SPOILER....Well you know that they were warned not to use the
computer for anything other than entering in the 'numbers', right? Well Michael has continued to communicate via computer with someone who claims to be Walt. Michael's last scene last night was him talking to "Walt" and "Walt" saying he was OK but could not talk long because they would be back soon. The last thing you see on the computer before Jack comes in is a sentence, entered by "Walt" saying that Michael should come here but we cannot see the rest of the sentence because Michael turns off the monitor so that Jack cannot see he was using the computer for stuff other than entering in the 'numbers.'

Locke has also taught Michael how to use a rifle and he is a good shot.

10. Ecko's brother wasn't the pilot
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 12:11 PM by Rob H.
Ecko's brother was the priest who was shot by the military after he tried to talk Ecko out of flying heroin out of the country. (Edit: The military showed up a few minutes after Ecko's brother arrived at the airstrip. There was an exchange of gunfire, and at least one of the soldiers was killed.) His brother was shot and Ecko's partners (henchmen?) dragged his brother onto the plane and double-crossed Ecko by shoving him out the hatch and taking off without him. The soldiers think that Ecko, disguised as a priest, really is a priest and so his life is spared.

Further edit, for chemenger's benefit: The plane took off from Nigeria and crash landed on the "Lost" island, which is in the South Pacific. I think Charlie actually wonders out loud at one point how a small plane taking off from Nigeria could have flown all that way.

12. Photo of Eko and the Monster
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 12:29 PM by GloriaSmith

to see more, this site has screen captures of the entire episode: http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=839&pos=402

From what I understand, images of people from Eko's past formed in the smoke. This is according to the die hard fans who tivo it and replay scenes over and over.

on edit: in a few days, the link that I posted will have an extremely comprehensive summary of the episode. It helped me when I missed a few episodes in the past.

Some minor things that happened - Kate gave Sawyer a haircut and they were flirty, Jin gives Anna a fish when no one else will talk to her (it comes across as a house warming gift), we find out that Charlie has been collecting and burying at least a dozen of those heroin filled Mary statues in the jungle, Locke teaches Michael how to shoot but tells him that searching for Walt would be a stupid plan, and Hugo helps new blonde woman build her tent on the beach.

15. Spoilers
Ecko's brother was in the line of fire from the military. The priest that was already on the plane pulled Ecko's brother onto the plane, shutting the door and leaving Ecko behind. That is then the soldiers ask Ecko if he is alright. (They believe that he is a true priest.)

By the by... I loved the introduction of Ecko's storyline. His decision to spare his brother from having to commit murder by pulling the trigger himself was quite compelling.

17. say what?
Guess I missed that part too (Ecko's decision to spare brother from having to commit murder). What was that about? Was that at the very beginning? I did miss the first minute or 2.

THNX!

19. Yes that was at the VERY beginning
local militia types come into the village/area and round up the children...a priest runs out of the very same church as you see later and is smacked in the head with a AK47. Ecko's little brother is picked to shoot an older guy...the kid hesitates....and hestitates...finally Ecko steps up grabs the .45 and kills the guy. They rip the crucifix from around his neck "You won't need this any more" and throw it on the ground. His younger brother picks it up...Ecko is driven off in the back of the Toyota pickup to begin his life as a warrior.
