Am I crazy?
Lately, we've had a bunch of box elder bugs seek refuge from the cold inside the house. They hang out around the windows mostly, though I've seen a few around the bathroom mirror and there's one that seems to like the lamp next to my rocking chair.

I'm ok with this. It's not like they're houseflies or roaches. Besides, the buggers are an endless source of amusement for my kitties. They don't bite or get into the food, I don't have curtains for them to mess up, and they're cool-looking. Here's a pic:

That's not the actual size. They're about 1/2 inch long.

So am I crazy for letting them stay?

2. No, these guys are pretty harmless
Do check out warm spots like down comforters and electric blankets. They like to breed in places like that.

4. Sounds like a good idea.
I always shake them out and wash them before putting them away for the spring, anyway.

5. Just don't "fun" with them or disturb them
They have a defense mechanism that releases a nutty scent that is offensive to birds and only mildly stinky to humans.

Mostly they just mind their own business.

8. I found one in a spider web and saved it...
I'd read that they were related to stinkbugs; so I was surprised that I didn't notice any odor.

10. Maybe because of your kindness....
You won't come back in the next life as a box elder bug.
